  1. Nice bucks, brandonjp! It's interesting observing genetic lines in an area. All the racks I've collected are from two distinct lines, very recognizable. My 2010 buck is the only differing one, and my neighbor has a nearly identical rack to that, collected a couple years ago.
  2. Lawdwaz, Yes. That was posted by my brother. He was very active on both the handgunhunt and specialty pistols forums. We hunted the same woods together for many years, and he was very happy to see this buck taken.
  3. The ten point I took opening day scored out officially at 151-3/8" gross, 146-1/8" net. Estimated live weight was 220lbs. I'm glad my daughter was anxious to help her dad drag him out - I'd probably still be tugging on him if she hadn't.
  4. I’ve been reloading for 22 years now. I find it fascinating and addictive. I genuinely enjoy working with a new rifle, finding a load it likes, and producing it as accurately as possible. I think it’s just as much fun as shooting itself. Since I’ve always liked some of the more oddball/forgotten/large mag cartridges, handloading was the only viable option some of the time, and the most economical all the time. I highly recommend reloading to anyone who wants to get max performance/enjoyment out of his or her gun. The huge money it saves is the cherry on the sundae. Quick list of cartridges I’ve owned rifles chambered for and worked with: 17 Rem (2 different guns) 22 Hornet 22-250 Rem* (2 different guns) 25-06 Rem (3 different guns) 6.5 Rem Mag* (2 different guns) 7mm Rem Ultra Mag* 308 Win 8mm Rem Mag (2 different guns) 338 Win Mag 350 Rem Mag* 416 Rem Mag 458 Win Mag Asterisk = guns I’m currently shooting.
  5. Hello all, I found Hunting NY when I did a web search, figuring there must be an online forum for NY hunters. This looks like a good board with good people, so I thought I’d register. I do a lot of target shooting and handloading (rifle) and primarily hunt deer. I chose the name "Swamp Hunter" since the stand I’ve hunted for the last 10+ years is in a valley river bottom. It is super thick, with lots of Aspen and Hemlock on the knolls, and standing water in the low areas year round. I’ve had good luck there, and love every minute I get to spend in the woods. I hope to learn a little while I’m here, and maybe help some others out as well. I’ve already enjoyed the pics of the bucks I’ve seen, and hope to share some, too.
