Kristen Kratzert, of Syracuse, sent these two photos of wildlife she shot recently while cross country skiing on Wellesley Island on the St. Lawrence River. She has a cottage in Westminster Park on the island.

She wrote: "There is a mute swan at Bathhouse shoal and a young porcupine in the state park!!

"It is beautiful up here this time of year. There are plenty of ice fisherman out, too."
