Syracuse.com - Local Audubon chapter hosting Derby Hill fundraiser Saturday

So far the numbers of raptors counted at Derby Hill this year exceeds 42,000, according to Niles Brown, a board member of the local Audubon chapter, which owns the land. The Onondaga Audubon Society is holding a “family fun” bird festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Derby Hill. This premier bird-watching spot for the spring migration of raptors — eagles, hawks, ospreys, turkey vultures, etc. — is on the shore of Lake Ontario between Oswego and Mexico on Sage Creek Road.Saturday’s free event will feature “hawk talks” about how to identify the hawks in flight. There will also be live birds for participants to see up close.Other offerings will include food, along with birding and nature walks on the grounds. There will also be a silent auction and raffles.
