  1. I know that new York state doesn't require a permission slip, however a property I just received permission to hunt, the owner asked me to provide one.

I wanted to know if anyone could point me in the direction of some sort of general permission slip that may help ease the owners mind?

    Thank you,

Not sure who you are talking to but if it was directed at me then you need to do a search and see what you find in stock anywheres ..I did find one but that one upper was the cost of a whole rifle

He was referencing the big ammo companies like Hornady, that put out videos saying stuff about the lack of ammo, and how they are trying to produce more and that more people are buying it as there are now more gun owners. Its surely a load of BS. No way that every single store in 100 mile radius is either sold out, or selling what they have for triple the price.

Not laughing at all. When my Outback gives out, I’ll be shopping for one of these. Good mileage, AWD, and enough bed to haul a deer and a climber.

Exactly. I got my ridge line for 1500$ from a friends dad. It had 190k miles on it. I sold it for $1500 with 230k on it. Towed any and everything I needed and hauled it’s fair share of deer. It’s owned by a friend now and has 360k on it. It runs pretty well to this day. A little rust and burns a bit of oil but it’s a Honda. I bet it would go 1000 miles with no oil.

Is another big red out of the question? My best friend specializes in nothing but big reds. I bet I can talk him into selling off one of his collection. Hes got probably 30 of them.

If hes got any non collector quality machines hed be willing to sell id be interested.

I have a 350x, a 200x and a 250r, and really am looking for a big red. The sport models are a blast to ride on our dirt road, but I really need something more practical for around the farm,

That is my biggest fear also. I will love Gods country so much that I will leave NY behind forever.

I am in no rush but would like to do it by 2022 , being  employed with a job with only gives 3 week vacation in a yr I cant take  too much time scouting.

Short term I will apply for the PA lotto but will keep the plan in motion for some place west. I would prefer to bow hunt but given that I wont be able to go every yr will try my luck with Rifle for the first time around.

If you have till 2022 buy  preference points each season till then.

If you are taking the bow, you have a higher chance of drawing a tag, and the hunt is usually significantly cheaper than going the rifle route.

  6. Please do not laugh at me, but look into the honda ridge line.

Is it a truck? Maybee depending on who you ask. But it can tow well, comfortable, has incredible covered storage, and honda reliability.

I drive an obnoxious lifted diesel truck, and can tell you first hand that my ridgeline I drove in high school was the most practical car I have ever owned.

I think its great you came back to take a look. I'm telling you though deer are tough animals and I have found them hours after I've given up because it means so much to me to find them. Wish you had more time to look.

I agree, they are very tough. We had shot one this year with a crossbow, and managed to survive. Was running around the next day with a limp, but still seemed fine. I would not have backed out, if I ha managed to find blood. 3 of us searched for at least 1.5 hours and no blood was found.

  8. Sorry for the delay.

Looked a few hours this morning. Just a few white hairs where she was standing and a tiny bit of blood and white hair on the arrow.

Walked all over searching for blood and nothing was found. I had to go to work but am pretty confident I clipped a tree branch and just grazed her belly slightly and that she will live to be seen again. Sucks for sure but knowing she will be okay puts me at ease. Thanks everyone.

She blew at you?  This would make me think a miss. And if she stood around there for 20 minutes and you couldn't see blood on her.

But I have gut shot one before and it just walked away slowly.  Also the biggest buck I ever got hit it with Xbow and it slowly walked away and went down in 50 yards.

If no yotes i would wait til daylight , if yotes are an issue there I prob look tonight at least for sign.

Yes. When she blew that totally caused my opinion to change. But I’ve also never seen a group of deer run and one stay. Especially when that is the one I shot at. Just puzzling.

There really can't be a piece of land in this state that doesn't hold a dedent yote population now a days....even fox will make a mess of the rear end.

I hunt southern westchester. Have had cams out for 7 months. Only seen 2 all year on the cams. I’m praying it’s in there when I get up there to look

Just a guess....but little to no reaction is gut or liver. Early on in my bow hunting adventures I shot back pretty far back.....never moved my pin as it took a step. Complete pass through at 15 yards and it just kept walking and laid down. I had no freaking clue what just happened......ended up flinging numerous arrows at it and then waited till it expired.

I’m praying. She eventually blew at me and just went down the hill to a creek. But never took off the way the others went. I always want to cleanly harvest, however I also would love to recover it if possible.

  12. I plan to try to get back out there tonight. I’m just baffled by the fact that every other deer left the area and she only went 15 yards and just hung out without acting crazy. I have seen this happen one time before, and it was a gut shot buck mid rut. Just keep trying to go over the shot in my head.

  13. Also, it was at last light. So couldn’t really tell if she was bleeding or anything. I could clearly see her and my pins and was well within legal light. Just couldn’t tell if I hit her and such

  14. Did something a little tough today. Ran into the woods with no phone or flashlight for an afternoon. Shot a lead doe at 40 yards, in the exact spot I have shot deer before. She hoped and ran 10 yards and stopped. The other 10 deer all took off like bandits. She then proceeded to stand in the area for 20 mins just walking around. I had no way to look for an arrow or blood as it was dark when I got down. I know the info is very poor, but I’ve never shot a deer that didn’t run, and never spooked a group of deer that one didn’t run. Anything here make you think I may have hit the deer? Going to look first thing in the morning.

Where are you located? A friend may be willing to sell me his place up in Middleburgh.

Has a house that will need to be demo'd but the utilities are key for me. Roughly 70 acres all woods, on a side of a mountain. Trying to justify a good deal but hunting seems pretty bad.

I would like to know where in New York you can kill 7 130” bucks regardless of how illegal or legal they may have been taken. That’s some very successful baiting, spot lighting or skilled woodsmanship I’ve never seen.

This was my thought exactly.... I am not the best hunter in the world, and I think the most I could possibly get in a weekend, with the greatest possible luck, I could maybe get 3 in a weekend, but nothing to the size of these deer.

it's also possible he was an outfitter, or part of a deer camp and he lived closest to the butcher. Heck could even be some high fence turkey shoot and the other guys flew home and left him the meat.

We always expect the worst, but it's not always the case... alas sometimes it is.

I 1000% agree. This weekend I drove home with 3 as a few of my friends got deer, but all drive cars, and I have a truck. From the explanation I got from my girlfriend however, it seemed the cops were being very aggressive towards him. He was up against the hood being patted down.
