Checked out Butterfield today. About 2 inches of ice with 2 inches of slush and another 1 inch of ice on top. little too sketchy for me.

Any Grouse or Quail hunters here?
rob1114 replied to shawnhu's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Steve- I hunt public land in NNY. I haven't been hunting them for 20 years so what I consider good flush rates may not be the same as other. But I consistently find birds... not always harvest a bird though. As many know those suckers can be hard to hit. -

Grouse is one of my favorite things to hunt. Its really nice to have a healthy wild bird population that most people don't take advantage of. I typically will hunt them with a 20ga, IC, MO size 6 shot. Here a picture of one I got today after work. -
I love ice fishing. Shame I can't find any ice with these temps

I agree, I would much rather be fishing for steelies than salmon but after the rain yesterday I couldn't resist hitting the salmon river and seeing what was around. Good bit of salmon pushing into the river, but only managed to land one. Won't be too much longer until the steelies start pushing into the river and creeks

Finally put my trail camera out and pulled the card today. For only having the camera out a little over a week and just on a trail, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of wildlife I caught on camera. The nicest buck is this one. He hung out in front of the camera half the night, I got a bunch of pictures of him. A Bear And a goofy little spike Also had quite a few pictures of does and raccoons.

I live up here in Jefferson county now. And this past weekend I took a trip down to the west branch of the delaware for some fly fishing. Well it was a great trip a rejuvenated my love for trout fishing with dry flies. I know I have the Salmon River and such near here which are awesome fisheries (If you can stand the crowds) but don't really get much of a bug hatch. I am curious, are they any streams or rivers in vicinity of Northern NY that get some decent hatches and can be productively fished with dry flies. I imagine there should be some in the ADK, just hoping to find some on the western side of the ADK. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Rob

Thinking about making a trip down there soon. Done a little steelhead fishing in some smaller creeks with some success this season. Use mostly eggs patterns and trout beads

This will be my first year ice fishing but there is still no ice. Can't wait for it to freeze up

Tried to copy and paste the sizing chart for you... looks like it didn't work. Go to the following link and on the lower right hand side is the sizing chart http://www.trophyridge.com/arrow-rests/whisker-biscuit/
