Two years ago I spent a ton of time in the woods. Had two target bucks that I didn't waiver on. I actually got a shot but missed. I let so many bucks walk by it was nuts. I would send videos to the guys showing them. I was told I was crazy! I learned a lot that year. I enjoyed the challenge and the time in the woods. Its different for everyone. Doing this kept me in the woods a long time. If I settled on a smaller buck that time probably would of been a lot less. Am I a better hunter for it, I think so in my mind. Again everyone has a mission and they set their own goals.

This is a sincere question, would you have still done the above if you still lived on LI and had a full time job. I do extremely well for a city slicker, but I could see things change if I lived at camp and didn't have a full time job. I think we all have reasons for what we do. The problem is there are some on here that speak to others in condescending ways because they don't aspire to harvest what they consider a trophy.

The new binocular harness is pretty sweet.  Hopefully, I’ll get to try out one of my other Christmas/birthday presents later today.  Now this is a Knife:

My thought, they feel less vulnerable to predators on their feet already vs. bedded down. I have nothing to back it up other than things I've observed over the years.

I can back that up for you, shot some nice bucks thru the years or some of the nastiest, windy, snow blowing sideways days...on a couple of those times I can remember that most guys wouldn't even venture out in.

For me it has nothing to do with the other site per-se, it is some the members that left here that to be honest I have no use for and do not want to associate with period. All the back biting, sniping cheap shot artists  and trouble making political trolls are gone and I for one am glad of it. I totally agree with Four Seasons, this site has never been better and I enjoy and like the members that stayed.

Numbers do not mean a thing to me, it is all about content and I like this site's content without all the bull!!

    Al

So just ignore those people, it's very simple.

  5. Come on people, I'm not bashing either site, I have interests in both. To say your loyal or such? This is not family, it's a forum for us to all enjoy the love of hunting, fishing etc...to not join as many forums to discuss your love of this sport is just plain silly!!!! I was probably one of the first members that joined here many moons ago and still enjoy being here but to not join the other site out of allegiance to this site for what is just plain silly. Again, I like both, so I'm not defending one or the other and neither should any of you. I just don't get it, this is entertainment,  not your kids, wife, parents , etc...so the reference to loyalty,  etc...just boggles my mind. Enjoy all you can about this great sport and if it means joining 10 forums, so be it, who cares!!!!!

Went out this afternoon, more so for therapy.  Lost my dad, hunting partner, and best friend last Sunday to cancer.

Seen a nice doe broad side about 30 yards when I was approaching one of the spots he use to sit. Also found the makings of a waterfall, pretty cool.

This season will be different for sure.

Sorry for your loss and I know exactly what your going through, lost my dad, my best friend, my hunting partner 2 years ago. It's tuff,  think about him all the time. My son who me and my dad  mentored got his first deer on his first season hunting and my dad wasn't there to share, lost him a few months prior. When me and my son approached the downed deer we both cried like babies, without a word we both knew why we were so emotional.  I say all this because it's hard as hell, doesn't get easier, but keep pushing and continue to do the things you both loved to do!!! My prayers will be with you and your family.

I find the toughest job of deer processing is separating the silver skin from the meat. Some is tough, others not so much. Depends on the age of the animal.  I do not like it and is very time consuming getting it all off.  Any secrets I've missed?

I dont find it as being hard, maybe because I've butchered quite a few over the years. But I do tend to take my time to ensure it's all off.

Cool, do what you wish, but you won’t be trashing the place on the way out either.

Listen I understand your position as a mod, but how can you defend a site with an absentee owner who literally screwed over hard working hunters, who coughed over money for T shirts and other memorabilia and never came thru. I questioned you on this year's ago and in a nutshell you  told me to chill and that you were in contact with BJ and he would make good by everyone, how did that work out for ya?  Don't take this personal, I'm just upset at what ownership did or lack of. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this site thru the years but lately not so much. I was one of the first members to join this site, sad to see it go to shit.  The few remaining here should come over to the new site, same old and new faces, seems very legit so far and mods and owner are active and open to site suggestions. I think you could actually contribute in a positive way.

  9. In central NY 4F deer are loaded with ticks. Pulled 2 off me this year (the tiny ones), like yourself good thing I found them embedded within 24 hrs. Something needs to be done with those little bastards. Hate them.

Another Ladder Stand Question ( if you don't mind ?)  I bought my Ladder Stand about 8-10 years ago and it is 15 ft. ( 3 - 5 ft. sections ) and I would rather it be 20 ft. ....  I think being more " out of sight " would be beneficial , thoughts ?

Do what I do, get a 15ft two person ladder stand and place it on a mountain side, in most cases I'm 60+ ft. above the deer (not joking) .but that stand I use for rifle hunting..

  11. Shot this buck on Sunday. Came in with a big doe and another bigger buck, almost had the larger one but didn't present a good shot.  I have pics from last year of these two same bucks traveling together, both got a pass last year as they were much smaller. Hopefully run into the bigger one during the rifle season. I know they are the same two  as the larger of the two has a freaky rack, same exact rack as last year just alot bigger.

Come on that’s the neighbors dog

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The way he was running around, setting off all my motion lights, you would have thought it was a little puppy dog. At one point he was literally 5 ft from me looking through the front door. Have some great video of him.
