  1. Well I had all good intentions on going on out using the pop up blind but I chickened out. Never expected so much snow (13") and every other tree branch breaking. At least now I'll have an idea on where they will be.
  2. With the the below forecast will the deer be moving? Since the tree stand is out of the question. was going to take the blind out. Should I bother. Windy with rain and snow showers mixed. Cold. High 39F. Winds NE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of precip 80%. Snow accumulating 3 to 5 inches.
  3. Anyone know the reasoning behind why you can't trap in Sterling Forest State Park? Is it a State Park thing or just Sterling Forest.
  4. Just wondering if the Ruffed Grouse Society still manage an area near Rensselaerville. Haven't been there in years. Was thinking about going back and talking a walk around.
  5. I'll have to take a closer look next time. I'm leaning towards the cable. Will try shifting the weight before standing because I know dieting doesn't work. lol. thanks
  6. Always seems to be a healthy population of grouse in 4H. Got two last weekend. Shame I have to travel 2 hours to get to 4H when I have almost 18,000 acres or state land within seconds of my home and not one grouse. Good for the local economy I guess.
  7. You got Pochuck State Forest in the hamlet of Pine Island in the Town of Warwick. Only 500 acres. Here's a link http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/40916.html
  8. I have the Summit Blade climber and it makes a noise. First thought it was something with the seat but I think its the platform. When I go to stand up it makes the noise. The noise seems to come from the back area. Its hard to describe but it sounds like a stretching type noise. The screw seems tight enough. Once I'm standing and I move it doesn't do it. Is this common to climbers. Basically, If I can hear it so with the deer. This is my first tree stand so I don't know much about them. Any Suggestions?
  9. At the base of the mountain there is large old field from what appears to be an old estate property. Mostly overgrown grass lands. Just inside the woodline there is an area with several rubs that appear in a close circular cluster. Haven't been able to find any other rubs going up the rock cliffs. There are several funnel type areas. Unfortunately, the nicest one has the trail in view. Seems I have alot of work ahead of me. Thanks for the info.
  10. I'm new to bow hunting. I'm using a climbing tree stand. I'm hunting state lands. Scouting has not turned up any great amount of traditional signs yet. With that I have really no idea where to set up. As mentioned it's state land with two moderately used hiking trails that run through the area. The type of land is very rocky meaning some steep slopes with rock ledges. The kind you when you top the area flat usually with alot of browse. Then another ledge. Most have deer trails but nothing that appears to be heavily used. Any suggestions?
