  1. Welcome. I hunt Rensselaerville State Forest Albany/Schoharie Counties. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I sat opening weekend. Not a lot of shots and very little movement. Rubs are just starting to show up in my area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. For me I don’t trap for the money. With coon, I usually trap a few then use them for my Trapper Ed classes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. In very general terms: Furbearer’s trapped in foothold traps are dispatched usually by a .22. Body gripping traps kill the Furbearer. To properly process a Furbearer they are fleshed which is removing fat and sometimes membranes from the skin. Then they are dried on a board or wire. Once dry they can be sold to a fur buyer or tanned by a tannery. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I had five out for a couple of days. I use the marshmallows and fish oil for a trailing scent. I pulled them with last weekends rain. Hitting some beavers on Thursday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I’m giving a European Mount a try. I boiled the skull to remove the meat. That went good. Looking for suggestions on the next two steps. 1) To degrease the left over remnants can I use dish soap bringing it to a soft boil? 2) To whiten the skull. Any recommended bleaching product or method. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Yes. It’s currently drying on the board. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Haven’t done much trapping this year but I put out some DP’s. Got this one before the round of tropical rains came through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Ok. Found it. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Is there a Category for Trapping? I couldn't see one and thought there was one under Small Game.
  11. With the Fisher season closing on the 10th. The permit needs to be returned to your local DEC office by Dec 20th. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks for the update. I hunt that property and I couldn’t make it this past weekend. Be up Friday. Hope the 2nd rut kicks in.
  13. This article is haunting me. Everywhere I go online I see it. Lol. Such BS.
  14. Nice job. I hunt the same area. Renselleseville State Forest that is. (Not sure if their is a Town with the same name)
  15. The youth camps still have openings. For those who don't know about these camps. This is brief synopsis. It's a total hands on experience. There is a meet and greet, followed by lectures on Friday evening. An Encon Officer will also come in and answer questions, etc. On Saturday-Sunday, the students go out and learn about trap sets, locations, habitat, etc. They are divided into two groups. Land and Water. In the afternoon they switch so each group can learn both. In between times, there is instructions on trap prep, skinning-fleshing, boarding, etc. On Monday, they do their final trap checks and will process any catches. Students who aren't already certified will receive certificates after they complete some additional class room instruction. The fee covers food costs. Everything else is done by donations from NYSTA, their Affiliates and other sources.
  16. If you're targeting Fisher make sure you check the regulations. All Fisher trapping now requires a special free permit and with the permit there are requirements to adhere to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. There will be a camp in Sullivan County this year. You can visit the website for more information. www.patarnoldyouthtrappingcamps.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. There are some links on the NYS Trappers Website. Look for Best Management Practices to start. www.nystrappers.org Trapping in Ny is alive and growing. Just certified 37 last week. With the fur market down trapping tends to slow. What trapping needs is more folks to get involved with their local clubs or start one yourself. Guess that would go with a lot of sportsman groups. 19. New York State Trappers Association has a new website. www.nystrappers.org Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. The Nysta Website committee is looking for pictures that we can use on the new site. We are not looking for trapped - dead - blurry - copyrighted (unless you own it) pictures. We would like pics of NY furbearer's in their element. Pics of traps - sets - processed fur (ok) atv/ boat rigs and any pic of the ny landscape that cries come trap me are good too. Sorry but we don't have time to debate if the site should have trapped animals on it. If there is a desire for it. Feel free to contact ur County/Regional Rep and make your case for a BOD mtg. Although we are keeping the design element restricted. One element we can report is an education page with links to the 14 furbearer's BMP info. It would look cool if we had pics for each one from the trappers of the state. Pics can be emailed to [email protected]. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Trapping course tend to appear in April. What county are you in?
  22. Squirrels aren't a furbearer. Shoot 'em instead. More fun.
  23. There is no 25ft regulation on gut pile sets. It's also not wise to set on a pile IMO. Blind sets far away is what I would do too.
  24. For me If I'm trapping public lands where I know domestic animals run loose. I won't set there. It's just not worth the interaction or local news story. Pre-bait without setting a trap up to two weeks before the season.
  25. Rockland Trappers is alive and very active. Check us out. Were on FB and our own website. Rocklandtrappers.com.
