I want to try to make a food plot this spring and i just need the run down on just about everything. I have mybe a 30x30 foot area that i would like to plant somekind of a deer snack.
As far as i know a food plot is not baiting, i thought about buying one of the seed bags you see at gander. I know corn like the back of my hand but besides that im not sure how any of the other food plots works. I have seen other food plots where they just tilled the land and then put the seeds in and hoped for the best. Is making a food plot harder or is it easier then it seems. Its only me and a shovel and im not sure how to go at it. Your help will be greatly apprecited.
Thanks
So happy you brought this up, I was planning on doing the same thing, although maybe a bit larger of an area. Does anyone know if you can get clover in Tractor Supply or Agway, and if so is it ok to buy it now and hold until spring. Also when would be a good time to start planting? I know "THEY" always say around mothers day is a good time to begin gardens etc. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help.

Welcome, and enjoy this site which is almost as addicting as hunting..... I have hunted the Catskills my entire life (live on LI) but got a place in Big Indian, hence my screen name

Feel better, and good luck w/ surgery. My buddy had a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery on his pull arm and has had no problem w/ bow since. Think positive !

I've cut meat and been around meat cutters all my life and never heard of such a term...
I HAVE heard the term "bone sour" usually referring to large portions of meat such as elk or moose hindquarters, or possibly even deer, that are not cooled properly and spoil from the inside ( bone) to the outside...
Out west when dealing with elk quarters that have been kept in questionable conditions, I have heard of butchers opening a hind quarter to the bone and smelling it for "bone sour"...
Thanks Pygmy. Maybe that was what it was, but he did say Green bone disease.
-
not really sure if he offered to "dispose" of it. I think the guy who told me was misinformed but he repeated it 3 x's( green bone disease) he was doing work in the area. I ran home and googled it then figured I'd post up here for feedback

OK, dumb question...... Was just talking to a guy whose friend shot a bear here in NYS, took it to a butcher who said you cant eat this because it has "green bone disease" .
I think he either got the story wrong or name of what was actually wrong the bear meat.
I googled and did not come up with anything, does anyone know of a similar story or have ever encountered this?

I am surprised they didn't tell us what a great person he was and show some picture of him making Holy Communion. News always tried to twist the facts and blame the victem. This one ended right!!!!!!!!!!
ya, I always love those stories when you see the Communion or Graduation pics of some perp, and upon further investigation their rap sheet is longer than a cross country road trip

Nice job momma !
There are so many skells like that out there who are up to no good, maybe this will deter some of them

does anyone use the yellow sunglasses ? I have never used but was sitting in a spot last week and could not see very well due to the glare and thought of getting a pair. just wondering if anyone has comments ,input or whatever. thanks

that really sucks ! sorry to hear that you cant enjoy a day in the woods without worrying about your possesions.
My neighbor had 2 trail cams stolen off his property last week.
I hope you get these guys before the cops do. I would give them some street justice....

last year walking out of my spot around dark my hot seat got hung up on a limb and smacked me in the arse as if someone was behind me I spun around and of course nobody was there....
You would have thought someone put a firecracker up my butt because I did double time back to the house

lots of schools of thought going out there.. I prefer to let the late comers push the deer around and see what happens. (even though my least favorite thing is getting up at 0 dark thirty) Also, for those of you who do come in late please be careful of the "sound" shooters and other whackos, especially for those of you hunting on state land.
Have fun and enjoy !
