  1. Sounds like they were pretty aggressive in kicking some members out of the club for simply owning a "black rifle".  I think they would have been better served voting to ban the rifles from their range, as opposed to banning the rifle owners.

Did you actually read the article in its entirety? The firearms were not in question. The actions of the owners were & after the continued rant that was launched on the forums AFTER the special meeting its no wonder people were voted out.

  2. Here is another file. Note the lack of federal funding.. Actually IMO we have a lack of support from the Feds. They need to allow sportsmen to shoot cormorants since the Feds are not managing these predator birds in sufficient numbers for co-existence of all species.

    End BPB comment

    From Fred Neff,

Per my request, Justin Gansowski forwarded his presentation to the NYSCC at the Fall Conference.  It's attached.  In case you are not aware of it, central NY (Region 7) is in the middle of both of these issues.  There may be feral swine in a lot of places in NY (check the attachment), but Cortland County is "ground zero" for the really big problems at present.  Also, Oneida Lake has been "ground zero" for cormorant control.[/size]

Regarding cormorants, pay particular attention to the slide that shows the contents of just ONE cormorant.  Here's the thing (as I've stated previously) - using figures provided by the DEC, my estimates show that, at their peak, cormorants were eating 45 TONS of fish from Oneida each year.  Now, take a look at the stomach contents on that slide.  Now try to imagine how many of those size fish that it would take to get to 45 TONS.  If any of you want to know how I reached that number, let me know.  I'm that sure of it!

The worst part of all of this is that one of the members of the Cormorant Task Force (for Oneida Lake) that I served on, who was a "birder" type, stated emphatically that, "you are making the cormorant the scapegoat for the decline of the fishery in Oneida Lake because of you are fishing it out".  Yeah, right!  All ended well and the controls worked.  They're even working now, due to the volunteer efforts of sportsmen working with DEC to harass the birds this year because a certain Congressman neglected to get the funding this year (and also 2011 if I'm hearing right).

I will be forwarding some additional photos from Justin that will emphasize just what one cormorant can eat.

$350.00 shipped and it yours as is unfinished

  4. A couple more years like this and people wont bother showing up.

I noticed right off that the buck skinners group weren't there.

  6. While back i wanted to ask a guy a question on gunbroker but you have to be a member to do so.

Ok so do the sign up thing, and then get the email to confirm my account, clicked on that to confirm and they want me to list a credit card and want to charge me $1.00 because i use yahoo as my email client. The $1.00 will be credited to my account once its confirmed. So first thing that comes to mind is this is total bs and they can kiss my a**. So now i want to contact them to tell them so and to remove any info about me. Apparently the only way to contact them is if you log on to your account, you cant log on to your account unless you do the bs credit card thing. I aint doin it, now way, no how, they can kiss my fat a** ill never buy anything thru there. If they cant take my word for who i am then pi** on um!

LOL so how much do you spend on ebay?

  7. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's moral. Just because it's moral doesn't mean it's legal.

    People confuse legal with morals.

He was hunting on a ranch, IMO it was up to the guides to inform him using attractants was not allowed in Calif.

Also I've yet to see the differnec in a food plot or as I call them, planting non-native species in an area when they do  not exist.

Food plots are growing bait piles ;)

  8. I'd like to see the draft of the plan before I make assumptions.

First glance (to me) appears they are attempting to get more revenues from the state forests...?

My guess is that the draft will be a sugar-coated business plan. Have to see!!

Yep many people have been telling the DEC they need to really, really start managing the trees. In 1993 when the ice storm hit the trees took a big loss. After some inspection it revealed just how many healthy large trees were ruined. Most of it made good firewood, but board lumber is worth more to the economy. (That is if its logged and milled local)

Now that the forest are full of pest that are killing the trees it will be interesting to see how fast the response is to harvest the trees before the are all worm food.

    Saturday September 25th

Gun Raffle at the American Legion Post in Marion from 1PM to 4PM.

Due to schedule demands during this election season, we may be presenting  our Wayne County SCOPE Patriot of the Year award to Senator Mike Nozzolio on  Saturday.

He prefers to come to our October 13th meeting to visit with us and accept  the award on that day, however we may have to give it to him Saturday at the Gun  Raffle.

When I find out for sure, I'll let you all know. Just giving you a 'heads  up' now. Hectic for everyone involved.

BTW, the Legion has graciously allowed us to sell our R15 raffle tickets  there on Saturday along side their fund raising gun raffle.

If any of you guys have sold some tickets since the last meeting, and you  will be at the Legion Post on Saturday, please bring them over and I'll take  care of them. I will have the rifle with me for display.

    Hope to see you there.

    Thanks,

    John

  11. Shameless sales plug:

I picked up around 240 boxes total of Remington Game masters in 45-5--54 & 58 cal. They have been selling well in the western states. Selling for $7.50 box and I can ship 3 boxes for $5.00 no insurance.

I also have some Hornady's Great Plains left in 50 & 54 cal all are solid lead the lightest being he 45's run around 265 grains.

    Here is one link

I can do a little better on the price for local sales seeing I don't have to make up auction fee.

I know guys who love power belts, but for the money there are less expensive bullets around if ya like to shoot more than a few times a year.

  12. Only season to use the xbow is gun, correct?

Can't be too many guys that will chose the xbow over the gun when having a choice.  Or are there?

You'd be surprised how many folks will buy one just to kill something with one.  :)

I am not looking at purchasing one as I've flintlock project getting ready to take off as soon as I can contact a guy to do some of the initial fitting for me.

  13.

    T/C's are over priced

A 209 primer will lift the projectile off the powder/pellet before the powder burns.

Yeah, T/C's are over priced but I try to stick to American made products with ease of use. And the triumph is the easiest Muzzleloader to load, shoot, and clean IMO of coarse. Cant beat a hand removable breach plug and break action and they are very acurate. But enough commercials heres an interesting article about primers I found the other day. Lots of good information.

WOW according to Wakeman ;Pure lead pancakes at low velocities, inhibiting penetration.

What a crock of BS. I should have never looked ! These guys know about as much about ballistics as can be found in a book. I've shot dozen of deer and had that pure lead round ball pass right through.

You want to know about lead bullets and roundball? You better get a hold of some old books and read up.

My GOD comparing a pure copper bullet to lead  ::(  These guys and there professional opinions are going to kill lead bullet shooters. I can see the antis & EPA quoting the Wakeman's opinion's one day.

Like the HSUS quotes Joe Posetic[sp] and his Fair Game/Chance book.

I don't know why I looked at the links, guess it like a train wreck wanted to see the carnage.

    Here's your choice:

Do you want to shoot, keep it affordable, and kill animals?

    OR

Do you want to spend $20.00 on 15 bullets that will do the same thing using a .15c bullet will do. Dead is Dead

Like I always say practice & placement will get you more in the long run than expensive gadgets.
