  1. saw one in my area today, also some fawn tracks in the woods in a different lot
  2. Thanks all, It has been a challanging season so far with a few near misses, but it all finally payed off today. and yes, i'm hooked
  3. Got my first Turkey this morning! Got out there about 5am heard a gobble across the road on the next hill over, nothing on our side. We decided to head over across the road, I turned took one step and a gobble came from about 100 yards away on our side. We circled around set up some decoys in the field. I went about 30 yards ahead of the decoys, my partner (who does most of the calling) went about 20 yards behind the decoys. Sat for a little over an hour and with almost no calling 2 hens and a tom came walking in. He got to 22 yards out and I layed him down. I think one of the hens was catching on to me as she was only about 5 feet from me and started putting a little bit. Great feeling and I cant wait to do it again! Beard is 9.5 inches and 3/4" spurs. We estimated it at about 18-20 pounds.

    Newbie here

Thanks for the welcome. I see nyantler is only a few miles down the road from me, good to see there are some from my area on here! NFA: I have already joined the rod and gun club in my town and attended a meeting. Looks to be about 100 members so I'll have to start rubbing elbows and get to know them. Also thanks for the advice on what to bring. I have a day pack right now and have it stocked up with some small food stuff, extra socks, gloves shirt etc. plus a first aid kit. (i work in sports medicine, so my first aid kit could easily get too big too fast) but I kept it reasonable. I have been out for turkey twice this season so far with a guy i've met thru work. I'm thinking I'll be hunting mostly turkey and whitetail at this point. Maybe try some other types of game once I get a little bit more experience. I have a rifle, and have borrowed a shotgun for turkey. I definiatly agree on the safety thing, and hopefully my training wont ever need to be utilized in the woods.
  5. Hi all, I'm 30 and just getting into hunting for the first time. Always thought I'd like to hunt but with college and everything else taking up 150% of my time I just never went for it. Plus with no close family members who hunt, I really didnt have anyone to show me the ropes so to speak. So now I've been done with school for 5 years or so and married up, bought a house and had a couple of kids, I figured if I didnt go for it now, it would never happen. I live in the Town of Vernon in 6P. I've been doing some reading here over the last month or so and figured I'd dive right in, who knows, maybe someone right near me might be willing to teach me a thing or two!
