Had an encounter with a solid 8pt, no shot. Dead out here other than that. 9y

Small bucks chasing doe on public land in 8N last night, I was doing the tilt-a-whirl trying to get a shot at a doe, didn't work out, headed doen to southern tier to hunt state land and private with my girlfriend. Glad she finally has time to get out.

Unless it's a complete deluge you should be fine, I have waited over night in rain to track a liver hit deer an I did find him, although it got tough towards the end. That's my only experience though so if someone has different feelings please do share. Of course it's going to have some effect, if it's a bad shot to begin with you may find yourself in trouble, so I guess it may be one of those times when one must take an honest inventory of ones shooting skills.

Loading up on NSAIDs puts a lot of people in the hospital with dangerous stomach bleeds. There are no deer in hospitals. Just saying.

Walkin in late this morning to get a camera, on an old logging road, doe comes running by within 10 yards, panting, spike buck behind her chasing, also panting, sees me, doesn't even break stride, passes me at 10 yards without a care, hot on her tail. I laughed out loud at how they both seemed not the least bit concerned as to my presence. As far as the camera, couple sweet looking bucks and a bear were the highlights. My g/f picked this spot out, she's very proud of herself.

Congrats!

Sorry if that sounded preachy guys and gals, I'm not dr deer by any stretch, just trying to be motivational:). Sometimes public lads does get trampled but if you bust out the dec lands mapper and look around there are a ton of options if ur willing to drive. You'll find less pressured areas. Check out areas where there are very few DMPs issued;)

Elmo, What state land are you hunting? I hunt a lot of public too and I have to say that it all varies just as much as anyplace else. Of course some gets hit harder than others and that plays into it. However I've done the hike all the way to the middle of heavy pressure areas and seen nothing, conversely I've shot a deer 50 yards from a main access point with multiple trucks parked there during the second week of gun at the same hi pressure property. Other state land areas I have found are practically devoid of human activity during bow season, and some spots are hot and some have no activity, and it changes with the season. The last three deer I've taken were off three diff state land properties, during bow, gun, and late season. Buck and does. Treat it like anyplace else, do ur homework and learn from being there, it will get easier. I recommend not assuming that just cus it's pressured you are out of luck, that's very discouraging. All that said, I am in western NY where densities are hi and I am talking thousand acre plus land tracts at least an hour from major cities.

I was in a stand on some state land near a bedding area this afternoon, nothing happening so I tried a little soft rattling. Surprised to see a doe come in almost immediately, spike buck behind her. Took a 20 yrd quartering away shot at her and put her down. I've never practiced anywhere near as much as this last summer with my bow and let me tell you it was worth every hour. Shot was totally automatic, squating down to avoid limbs and te placement was spot on for the type of shot, heard her go down from the stand. Felt great knowing that the kill was quick and clean. I filmed that spike buck for a while afterwards as well.

Ditto, research I've seen suggests the fewer doe to go around, the more intense the rut becomes, although it will last a shorter time. Too many hot doe means the bucks don't have to move much, at least that's the theory.
-
Correction, one doe just came thru out of range, feeding casually.
-
It's providing zero movement for me, I just got into my evening stand, doe was bedded down in front of my stand when I got here, no shot.

Bumped a couple deer in the dark this morning, on the way in, hate when that happens, sat till 11, saw nothing. Back in a little later, this time on a fresh cut corn field. High 60s, breezy west wind, mostly to partly cloudy, reporting from 9H

YFKI.... Any chance your phone security settings are preventing the app from sharing the images? Just a thought. Glad to see everyone is having fun out there, I'll be out the next few days. Absolutely can't wait!
-
Sorry to hear, was hopin to check back and find some good news, I'm back out now, diff stand.
-
On a side note, the blind calling thing seems to work pretty good when the rut is on, problem lies in the fact that you don't know where they are gonna show up at, and they are lookin for something, intently. Note to self, next time avoid putting scent wick directly under stand.

Yeah it's tough, little action over here, right after I posted that I had a small 6 come into my bleating and estrus pee, took forever, thought i was gonna have a short shot to my right, then he turns ands heads away, I call him back with a bleat and a grunt, another 10 min of him coming slowly at me, finally get a 17 yrd shot opp. And I shot over his back, lol. Next time. He wasnt very big anyway.

Still here in 9Y, dead still for me, the girlfriend kicked up 2 on the way to her set, same story as yesterday. If something doesn't go down soon I'm gonna be skunked this bow season, for the first time. I know I've been very lucky, still tough to not be frustrated isn't it? Good luck! Let us know if you guys/girls see some action! By the way, 24 is chilly, brr

9y this morn on my friends land. 26, light snow, winds NNW at 5-10. Passed a young 7 pt at 730:/, still deerless this season. We'll see....

Slow afternoon in 9P, did see a wall hanger with a doe in a field while driving, one buck came running thru behind me at last light, too far and he never stopped running. .....out again Monday AM
-
Made it down to a friends property this AM in 9Y 34 degrees, some light snow and a SE wind, couple young bucks and a doe around 830-900 for me, girlfriend took a shot at a young 6 point, woulda been first bow deer, second deer ever...clean miss low, no harm no foul. Didn't even scare him off, just wandered away casually as another deer showed up. Fresh scrapes all over, should be a fun couple of weeks coming up. Back at it tomorrow all day, good luck to all, stay warm and safe.
-
Well with about 15 min of legal shooting left a buck snuck up on me and busted me before I really knew what happened, caught a glimpse of his right side, looked like a small 6 or 8 if he matched up on the other side, not a shooter today anyway. I'll be staying out of that stand for a while.
-
Afternoon sit on state land in 8N wet and QUIET out here, 2nd time in this stand, no luck yet. Looks like they are still hittin the acorns to my left and crossing the creek to my right. We'll see... My girlfriend jumped 2 on the way to her spot. They had been bedded down. 55 degrees and overcast, wind calm.
-
Cloudy with a little drizzle here in the southern tier, me and my g/f are in our stands, it's a warm 55 degrees, perhaps the bear I have on camera will be wandering around today;)
