  1. Care to share that one with us? Or family secret?
  2. I'm tree surfing in 9H, actually kinda fun, doubt I'll see anything. Good to be out though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. How is it that the crossbow is going to make such a difference? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Outdoor News quoted one of my posts from this thread! I'm famous!![emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm officially convinced that DEC knows this won't work, either will an early mz season. They will resort to doe only or earn a buck during regular season, and all this hoopla is just so they can say they tried. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It's been 150 years, how about you give it a rest. All in good fun brother, we are just talking about what we are passionate about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. At the end of the day I believe we are conservationists, and if we thought this plan DEC has would work, we would deal with it like adults. As far as I'm concerned I'd stop hunting if that was needed to protect the heard. Problem is most of us are convinced, rightfully so, that this plan cannot possible work. It's not that we are being selfish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I'm not here to argue but if you agree that bow hunters are gun hunters, and dead doe is in fact just that, and it doesn't matter when she goes down....then let them throw an early mz season at us. The result will be no different than what we are discussing right now. A whole bunch of bow hunters who are gun hunters who will not take part. So unless masses of gun only hunters suddenly decide they want a part of an early mz season, invest in a mzldr for a season which may not last, to shoot doe only, the net result will be the same. Maybe I am wrong, maybe tons of people will jump on, but given the limited participation in late season, I doubt it, not for doe.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I understand, I used to hunt a lot but I'm back in school, got married and just had a baby. Although I hunt mostly outside of the affected area, time constraints have seriously altered my ability to get out there and be choosy. And it just so happens that's closest spot I can go is IN the affected area so it's a bit of a double whammy I didn't see coming. I'll be lucky to kill anything this year which is why the limitation is an issue for me personally. I'm not going to let get to me though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Fair enough, thanks that's interesting actually. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Is that because they have a specific buck patterned and they don't want to mess it up? Just curious, because my group will shot as many doe as they have tags, I'm curious why the drastic difference in our ways. And what unit are they in? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Is it really like shooting fish in a barrel in these places? There is a 30 acre parcel I have access to in 8f, and while there are deer there, they aren't walking past my stand every 30 min. If it's really that good on some of the other properties I wish someone would let me know I'd love to join the party. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I didn't take what you said personally so no hard feelings but I just wanted to point out that I am a meat hunter and I am bothered by this new reg still. What if the only deer I see during mz is a buck? I have to let that meat walk, and one more deer that would have been taken lives on. DEC claims this is about deer density not protecting young bucks. Last year on gun opener I sat until almost 3pm before I shot a doe, reason being it was the only doe I saw. I had 7 young bucks around but the owner has a thing about letting those guys grow up a little, his land not mine so I respect it. If I had shot a buck early I would have been back up the tree after gutting it. I shoot doe, as many as I can as it is, I didn't need Albany to punish me for it while telling me to go shoot more. 14. Everyone I hunt with including myself have let the air out of far more doe than buck. We hunt because we like to shoot em and eat em.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Funny thing is they did have a public comment period, myself and the people I hunt with did not respond favorably. I can't imagine that anyone did after reading this thread, yet they went along with the change anyway. Do they really think guys and gals are going out in 15 degree snow banks during late muzzleloader just to watch a weary buck walk on by after hunting hard all season? The Bucks help to get people out and they might still shoot a doe if one comes by, but take the bucks out of the equation and there is less reason to be out. This seems like a dismal failure already. I have no problem shooting doe, I'd shoot a doe on opening day regardless, but if a buck walks by later on.....I'd be shooting less deer, not more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. 9 point I took on state land in southern 9P on 10/16. Sitting in the middle of a bunch of oaks, he came out with two minutes left before sunset. Saw a total of 8 deer and a bear that day. First bear I've seen with my own eyes, awesome night. Barred owls talking like crazy as the day came to a close. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Hey I tend to agree but didn't think too much about it. If you use tapatalk on your smartphone and enable notifications you can see that there are new post and swipe to read them, it'll take you to the newest posts, no scrolling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I did some tine tickling last oct 9th and it brought in a curious doe with a spike behind her. I subsequently ate her. I'm certainly gonna try it again. This happened on public land in 9H. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. My fiancé and I value the meat a lot, and we are practically out. My time in the woods is severely limited this year b/c of school, so I would love to put a doe down right off the bat, better yet, I would love if we both put a doe down right off the bat! I doubt it'll be that easy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Got trail cam video of one tugging on my stand set in 9P a couple years back, my fiancé saw one in 9y as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I think that press release has more to do with the fact that they are having problems with the new computer system and they don't want a crash when people make a mad dash to get DMPs at the last second. Hence, "apply early". I doubt there will still be a significantly low Number of applicants compared to last year when all is said and done. I live in the lands of DMP galore, and I am a newish hunter, I have never gotten a free DMP, then again I usually end up with 4 total by nov 1st for various units. As much as I would like to see hunting fees go down, I can't say the 10 bucks for multiple DMPs every year is a bad investment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Remember that what makes this such a rewarding sport is that it's not easy, it's not supposed to be. Don't be discouraged when you go days without seeing a deer, or if you don't tag one this season, or next season, or next.... Sooner or later you will connect and you will be hooked. The more time in the woods, the better your chances. It's ok to be a newbie. Some of my fondest memories of hunting are from my first days in the field, I didn't know much but I was in aw, and that's all that mattered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Make your own, i do 1/2in double braid nylon for the main line and 3/8 in double braid nylon for the prussic knot loop. You can buy it all but the foot at www.ropeandknotsupply.com for much cheaper than buying 1 line for $40. I do like 20-25 ft for the main line then about 4-5 ft for each prussic knot loop I think. PM me if you need more details I'm typing this from work on my phone. Scott Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I switched to NAP killzone last year, the confidence I had knowing where my arrow was going to go made my time much more enjoyable, only shot I took all season was a steep quartering away shot and my placement was perfect. Heard her go down within seconds. Made a believer out of me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Decked out my Pathfinder with a shelf for my gear, under that shelf is space reserved for my lone wolf climber and game cart. Thus I have easy access to the cart and climber even if my truck is full of other stuff. Installed power inverter to power microwave, so I can have a hot meal/coffee if I choose. New arrows for my fiancé, (pink/black) to match her bow, she is very excited, both our bows paper tuned, and precisely sighted. Separate air tight containers for outerwear, base layers, and accessories. (No more digging thru bibs and parkas to find that elusive glove.) Been shooting for months already, bunch of stands are set, cameras out.... Man will Oct 1st ever get here!? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
