IIRC I've been exclusively using video on my trail cams since 2009 and back then they were awful! Today I use all Browning cams and one Spartan, and am pretty satisfied. Some of my favorite videos aren't even deer; fisher, bobcat, bear and even a couple crazy flying squirrels in the dark of the night.

Good deal Zeek. It’s tough doing a DIY hunt out west but surely tons of fun.

my father in law is an eye doctor and he'd tell you that cheap non-polarized sunglasses can actually be harmful to some degree. But some here would say that's not true and a $5 pair from a gas station is just as good as polarized $130 raybans.
JHC it’s a music reference. ZZ Top…..come on man.

Saw a doe on the roadside feeding as I drove from Atlanta to Alabama today. Does that count as a siting?

Shot a doe this morning. 30 yards. Slightly quartering. Shot looked, sounded good. Waited 25 minutes and got down. Couldn't find blood right away, but I saw where she left the overgrown pasture and went into the woods. Headed that way and it sounded like a herd of deer took off. I was confident in the shot. Found fantastic blood in the woods. 40 yards later I found a huge pool of blood and then a bloody bed. I didn't think I had kicked her up, but thought I chose to play it safe and backed out. My buddy came over to hang out and catch up. We went back in an hour and a half later. Blood trail was sparse, but pretty easy to follow.
Coyotes beat me to her. Tore up both hind quarters, ate the liver and tore the stomach apart. I think backing out was the smart move, but it may have cost me the deer in the end. She ran another 100+ yards, more or less dead on her feet and dropped. No sign of a struggle. Entrance was 5" behind the shoulder and half way up. Exit was lower and 3 or 4 ribs from the back of the ribcage. Mad I lost the deer, but can't really say what I should have done differently. Ravens were having a field day carrying away meat and fat.
Between work and weather I probably won't get out until next weekend. I have permission on 120 acres in that area, but I won't hunt it with a bow again.
Congrats to everyone who scored.
Tough deal....

Confession time. Other day at about 8 am had nice doe at 35 in thick stuff behind me. 10 minutes later she had circled to 25 in front of me. I tweened my 20 n 30 yard pin. Did everything routine wise and sent it. Ever so slightly quartering away but dang near broadside. Her head facing away . Never saw nocturnal light up. She scoot simply as if she was quickly scared. No haunch , no kick. Just ran off and lost sight of her in 25 yards. Waited 30 minutes or so and climbed down to retrieve arrow. Couldn’t find it and guessing it snaked under all the leaves. Found few good splashes of bright red blood , then only drips here and there , one decent clot like puddle , no bubbles . Found first small bed and dark coagulated blood. Then only a couple drops of watery blood. Then nothing. Grid searched for blood and her for a few more hours. Was a good wind and leaves kept flipping over and finding flood became impossible. Nothing. Upon texting a couple members on here pics we believe it was a superficial hit. I’ve only killed 2 deer with bow in 4 years of archery and both went 40-50 and crashed in sight. Have lost a great buck with slug gun years back and a big doe with ml. I know nobody’s perfect but man did I get a gut wrenching feeling from that day til now. Have a cam over there and hope to get her on it.
It is Sunday……..
Who knows what happened. Sometimes I think I’m shooting with my eyes closed.
Pick a spot and follow through!

I can sit comfortably for 8 hours in a stand when it’s 10 degrees outside in 30 mph wind as long as I have: 1) a 3 ft high wall/gun rest to block the wind, 2) a $40 pair of army surplus Mickey Mouse boots and wool socks, 3) a .29 cent hot hands in $ 9.99 muff., $ 20 thinsulate lined bibs, 4) cheap long underwear, 5) cheap face mask and wool hat 6) lined flannel shirt 7) cheap thinsulate lined jacket.
Cold weather hunting is my favorite, especially the new Holiday ML season. I can’t wait for that, as I sit here in 55 degrees, on opening day of gun up in the Adirobdacks, with midges landing in my cider cup.
I am using a borrowed gun today that my father in law wants me to shoot him a bear with.
If the sun is out, you’re going to need some cheap sunglasses. So go on out and get some cheap sunglasses……

I hunted this morning but came home this afternoon. I don't have any interest in messing with a deer in these temps.

I bought a lifetime license years ago because it was a good investment. I knew license fees would continue to rise.
I feel guilty each year when my Lifetime License shows up.
