Oh yeah they have all the schools closing and whatnot. My phones and fax line is down, 90% of the state is closed, and I'm the only one here and yet my boss still feels the need to keep me here. Granted, I work 1/4 mile from my house, but holy crap - I'm going to die of redundant boredom. lol. I'm prepared for the worst, but I doubt it's going to be all that bad.

I live in upstate NY up by Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence. I think at least in our area, they are blowing this storm way out of proportion...they are letting schools out early and everything over some wind. We've got high winds before and people don't get let out early. But because this is attached to a hurricane it's a huge deal. lol. Good luck to all - especially those of you in southern NY and near the city. I have a wood stove, gas stove top, car charger for my phone, and a bathtub and buckets full of water to flush the toilet if the power goes out. I'm set. lol.

We created a few new spots this past week. I am minding the rain as I am 7 months pregnant and can't afford to get sick right now. So unfortunatley didn't go out at all yesterday. Hubby and I are getting things together in case the power goes out with this storm (that I feel everyone is blowing way out of proportion, but can't hurt to be prepared).

No. He's not a big computer person unless it's on craigslist Oh and Phade - hubby and I take turns as I have 3 different stands on the porperty. I was not trying to dismiss your suggestion, just stating that I'm not comfortable hunting on public land because I have no sense of direction, and don't want to either A, get lost, or B get shot by ignorant hunters.

Yeah I don't bow hunt. I don't have the patience. I know the patterns as I've been hunting there for years. Sometimes I just think they move at night after dark instead of at dusk. Not much I can do there.

Thanks all. Going to take a break for a few days from hunting. Unfortunatley, baby is telling me to relax for a day or two. Hubby will probably hunt tonight and tomorrow.

Okay as far as overhunting, my dad hunted that spot for 17 years and brought a deer out every year. I don't have anywhere else to hunt and I refuse to hunt state land that I'm not familiar with. The spot I'm in is a really good spot, and the other stand is overlooking a clearing and I can't put the blind there unless I sit directly in the middle of it. Which I can't do. I have to make due with what I have to work with. I'm in northern Jefferson County.

Wouldn't shooting a .22 scare the deer off though?

Lol it's rifle season where I am right now as of last weekend I'm sporting my .30-30 Winchester Model 94. I don't have the patience for bow hunting lol.

The only thing I've seen is squirrels...that get my adrenaline pumping like mad because they sound like a deer coming slowly thru the leaves...and then surprise...a big fat house-cat-sized grey squirrel...assholes. lol

Striped: That's a good idea with the scents. No one in my family really uses calls and everyone I've talked to said they're kind of pointless until the rut gets here other than a fawn bleat. I have a few apps on my phone (lol). Rev: I agree with that, but the last 4 nights of not seeing anything have got me so discouraged. Not to mention my housework is suffering (LMAO). I just figure they won't move as much in the warm weather as they do in the cooler but that's proving to be a misconception.

Thanks. I hunt my mom's 9 acres, and there are a few acres attached to it that we are allowed to hunt. Hubby doesn't hunt only on the weekends - doesn't get home from work in time. I'm done at 4:00 so I head right to the woods after work. Once MAYBE twice a week we are out there together to cover the entire property. I only bring one deer per year out of there and have seen plenty.

All I've seen the last 4 times I've been out is squirrels. Missed a doe a week ago with the muzzeloader and haven't seen one since. I take whatever walks in front of me because you can't eat horns. I hunt to fill my freezer, not to decorate the wall. If I get that chance, great. If not, I still have meat in the freezer. And I'll need that espeically w/ the new baby coming

If I used those shampoos, I would look like I stuck my finger in a light socket. I always try to wear a hat and tuck my hair up under it. I don't have a decoy - never met anyone who used them. I hunt my mother's small property of 9 acres and it's all thick stuff. Made my own trail and have 2 tree stands on the property and now my blind which is right under my tree stand (lol). I have one of the fold out chairs with arms. I wouldn't last 5 minutes out there on a stool without one. I have a bottle of Tinks "Doe P" that i usually put a few drops on my boots before going in.

Where I hunt is set up more for a tree stand. If it was on the edge of a field or something, that would be different. :-/

Hello All, My name is Amanda and I'm right up next to the St. Lawrence in the 1000 Islands. Been hunting since I was about 5 years old (with dad obviously) got my first buck by myself at 20. I shoot with a .30-30 Winchester Model 94 and I also hunt black powder. Right now I'm almost 7 months pregnant and still out in the woods every chance I get. Not realy happy about having to hunt on the ground this year as I'm a tree stand person...but hunting on the ground is much better than no hunting at all! Talk to you on the forums!

Howdy All, I am up just next to the St. Lawrence River, and I just have some opinion questions for some of you fellow hunters. It's supposed to be 70 degrees for the next two days. Worth hunting? I like to have my deer hang for a few days rather than instantly quarter them up. Also, I'm almost 7 months pregnant and am forced to hunt in a blind on the ground (unless hubby is there to "spot" me into the stand...not my choice trust me...would much rather be in a stand). Any tips for me for hunting in my blind? I set it up in late August so the deer have had lots of time to get used to it, but it seems like every time I'm in it the only thing I see are squirrels. I use natural cover scent (i.e., rub my hunting gear down with pine needles, dirt, etc. don't wear perfume all of hunting season, etc). Also, what are all of your experiences hunting in high(er) winds? (15+mph) Some good feedback would be great.
