  1. Having a good season so far in redfield.Ist one is me. 8pt, 143lbs. 2nd one is my nephew, 7pt, 165lbs, This is his 1st deer and 1st year hunting. I told him it will be hard to top that one.
  2. Any snow in redfield area? Heading there tomorrow, hoping they dont get 8 to 16 like the forecast. Any info on accumulation would be helpful, Thanks.
  3. I have to agree with Doc. Hunting has changed alot in last 20 years,I think a lot of it is hunting shows on tv. They make it look so easy, yet they fail to mention that nobody else hunts there, only them. They buy up all the land so no one else can hunt it unless you come up with the money. There is nothing wrong with shooting spikehorns if you are happy with that.Just because you pass up smaller bucks dont make you any better. Some of us dont have the deer available to pass up.I am 64 years old now. I have shot 33 bucks in my lifetime. Yes some where spikehorns, but I still enjoyed the hunt.Try hunting state or public land and see how it is.If you have your own private preserve where no one else hunts then, that changes things quite a bit.
  4. O k , Thanks for the ideas. I will try them and see how it works, Thanks for the input.
  5. I bought a 3-d deer target from Dicks. It is fine except i have an awful time getting my arrows out of it ..I have to pull vital insert out and hold it between my legs to get arrows out.Has anyone else run in to this and do you have any suggestions? Only using practice points on it. I pd. 100.00 dollars for it and I dont want to buy another one. I use carbon arrows. Thanks for any input.
  6. Took trailcam down a few weeks back. See what you think.Zone 6k.
  7. Going to be hunting turkeys in 6k this spring.Has to be state land.I know there is plenty of it. Is one any better than others? I am in redfield, so battle hill and salmon, little john are all pretty close. Would I be better to go out to Chateuguay or florence hill state forests? Dont have alot of time to hunt, maybe 6-8 days all month. Thanks, any info would be appreciated.
  8. Welcome, Looks like you have lots to offer this site, with trapping, hunting and taxidermy.Born in Hartford myself!
  9. Welcome, I just joined last week and i am amazed of all the info you can gather and if you need something answered ,they all seem to help out.
  10. Just wanted to thank everyone for the info. I am thinking, I may carry climber in and out when on state land now.It is so flat in areas I hunt that just getting off the ground 15 feet or so , makes a huge difference in the area i watch.Especially during gun hunting with snow when leaves are off.
  11. I checked with dec. They said you can leave them 30 days. I have a climber. I just dont like carrying it in and out each day. It is a summit, witch dont come cheap. Thanks for the info so far.
  12. Whats your thoughts on leaving tree stands in woods during the season? I checked laws with DEc, And all, but Do you think i will have a problem? I can cable it . I just need thoughts on past expierences.Hunting in 6n and 6k. Thanks
  13. Hello, Just joined and want to talk hunting. I am 63 and semi- retired. Own a camp and some land in Redfield area. Been there 3 years now. I hunt deer with gun, bow ,and muzzleloader. Also hunt turkey in spring only. Fish some, but not avid like deer hunting.Usually hunt thru thanksgiving weekend and then close up camp due to deep snow. Thanks, vtpainter
