    Depending on when they cut the corn I can view that entire field from a tree stand on my in-laws. I have few stands that I was going to do that with anyway. Doewhaker use to hunt this property and has been generous with the information he has given me. While a decent amount of time has passed, the scouting I've done has shown almost all the info he has given me has been spot on. If I'm successful this season I believe I owe him some backstrap lol I plan on hitting the winter scouting hard this year. I've never lived so close to where I can hunt, in years past other things were going on and post season scouting got over looked due to distance and ice fishing. Depending on what the wind is doing tonight I might take a short walk.

    Hands down, the safest place is the creek. It's a mess and not easily navigated from what I can see. The hedge row runs into the creek. I can get a stand in there. I'll know more tomorrow. I'm going to sneak in and grab my cam, check the others I have out and walk the last of the property I haven't covered. A lot of what I haven't covered is think nasty stuff, my dad refuses to go into and I'll be solo this trip.

    Phade- the bed is 200 yards from the in-laws. I have an idea to hunt him if he is using that as a regular bedding area. I only have permission to walk through this field. I'll have to ask him to hunt it. He's a friend and customer of the family.<br /><br />DW-lol I wouldn't mind, I'm sure you could show me a thing or two on the property. I know there are others that hunt it now but I haven't seen one bit of evidence of anyone scouting and I drive by it every day. There are a few bucks on the other property there that I've seen too. <br /><br /><br />Sorry for the thread jacking!

    Nope just one bed in this particular field corner but it is tucked in a low laying area with knee high grass and a 6 foot fence behind it. This corn field borders the road on one side, the fence on the other, and a thick brushy nasty creek on the other side and the wind usually blows in from the other side where there is a hay field and the barn. There is a pretty think hedge row/ wooded area before the fence where I have a cam up. It's been there two weeks now and I'm itching to check em.

    I hunted for two or three years before I got my first deer with my bow. It was a total fluke but is still my favorite hunt. Windy day, still hunting through some old pines on state land and happen to have a doe and two yearlings run in front of me and stop at 10 yards. Pulled back the string, took one step to my right and put an arrow right through both lungs. She dropped 20 or so yards from that spot. As I gave her 20 or so minutes I had 3 different bucks come in to check her out. What I've learned in the previous 5 years is technology is great but is overrated when it comes to hunting. I do shoot a newer Mathews, I do run trail cams, I use google maps but none of that matters if I can't see, touch and feel what's going on in the woods. In the field scouting has shown me much more about what deer do and why they do it. I have high hopes for this season, I've put more time and energy I to scouting and practicing with my weapon of choice then ever before. Technology can't replace woodsmanship no matter how fast or how hard you fling arrows.

    I use face paint but its really a personal preference. I do not like things on my face and feel masks impede my vision and hearing. I don't even wear winter hats, I run face paint and a ball cap all season even into the winter. I also have a pretty sweet beard during hunting season so I don't have to much to cover.

    Well I know where Turkeys sleep and its made me a better turkey hunter, I figured knowing more about where deer sleep and rest would improve my hunting also. Not sure I understand why a topic about an important aspect of an animal we hunt would be taboo. I've been doing a lot of reading on whitetails, I particularly like one by Alhsimer (sp) where he chronicles a doe and two bucks for an entire year. I found that helpful and entertaining but this whole bedding thing is a little confusing for me. Every time I find a bed I look around to figure out why a deer decided it was a good spot to lay down. I ask because there are guys on here who have the knowledge and experience I don't. <br /><br />I've been watching 3 particular deer, all three of them seem to be eating and sleeping in a very small area. I see a doe and her fawn every night browsing in a trilicate field and bedding in tall grass around a creek. The buck I've seen around the same creek and although I see him less but I have trailcam photos of him almost everyday using the trail along the creek. Now on the 225 acres I have to hunt these deer seem to be using the same 25 or so acre patch of cover, woods and food. It's a very visible 25 acres at that.

    Good luck, I've noticed that when I ask if I can bow hunt people are more willing to let you use their land. Be sure if you do get a yes to ask where to park, if there is any animal they don't want you to hunt and if you should expect to run into anyone else on the property.

In my experience I'd say deer don't bed in the same place all the time. Just yesterday I found 3 beds on my in-laws 5 acres. There were 2 adult size beds and one fawn size bed all under an apple tree with a small hill on one side and a creek on the other in calf high grass. That's the first time I've seen a bed on their property. While scouting I would find beds in all kinds of different cover. I'm curious as to what makes a spot desirable for a deer to bed in? And do they consistently use the same beds? What do you guys and gals do to make good bedding areas for deer?

    I've had extremely good luck finding places to hunt. Do some research on the tax maps. Find out who the land owner is and find something you have in common. I google the land owner to see if I can learn anything about them. I was fortunate enough that a few places I asked were friends with a co-worker that lived in the area or knew my in-laws.

    Well taxidermist called and full mount is started, hope to have by 2nd week in august!! getting excited! not so excited as two others seem to have taken up residence close by and getting bear damage again around house and barn. :( someone elses turn this time ..ones enough for me right now.

    Great story and congrats on a monster bear! I you need help with the two new ones let me know lol

    I honestly think it is impossible to walk through the Hartford Cabelas and not buy a single item. I always feel like a kid in a candy store. I can't even walk through Dick's and not buy something hunting and/or fishing related.

    Just went to Dick's last week, walked out with a new trailcam that I did not need. I've been banned by my fiancé for at least 6 months, it was my third trip in as many weeks and each time I walked out with something I didn't need. First a new target, then broad heads and this week the cam. Lol

    I started shooting a month ago and I could feel it. I've put about 300 shots into the target and two into a tree behind it lol. I am fortunate to have a place I can shoot at longer ranges. I've been practicing at 40, 50 and sometimes 60 yards. Last night I shot a few at 20 and 30, can't believe what practicing at longer distances did for my groups. I bought a new string but I'm not sure I want to mess with getting it put on this season the way I'm shooting inside 30 yards.
