  1. We have just had a litter of German Short Haired Pointer puppies all with beautiful breed standard markings (liver patches with white background and ticked roaning). We are the owners of the Dam and the Sire is from Rhinebeck NY. This litter has been bred for upland bird hunting with the dam coming from the bird dog Kennels at the Catskill Pheasantry in Long Eddy NY and the Sire from a local bird dog breeder. The litter is registered with the AKC as well as the dam and the sire. We have pedigree on both parents going back seven generations. Molly the dam has grown up side by side with our 3 year old daughter and we can say that this breeds temperament with children is second to none. What a good family dog. Of course we would like these puppies to go to homes that plan on hunting them but an active family looking for the perfect companion would be our next best choice. The puppies are now 5 weeks old and will be ready to go to their future homes in another 3-5 weeks. We currently have 4 males and 3 females available and we are asking $1,000 for the puppies. Please contact us with any questions or if you would like to meet the puppies. Jonathan: 203-410-0351
  2. Last year I jumped out of my stand at 8:00 after not seeing anything and walked 150 yards into the woods right up to the property line near a fields edge. I sprayed buck bomb every 3 or 4 feet in a trail back to my stand. Sure enough about an hour later I see a nice buck with his head down to the ground almost running down the trail that I just made with the bomb earlier. I took him with the shotgun and that was my experience with the bomb.
  3. Here is my first buck with the bow!! He came in around 5:30 with another smaller buck down a heavily traveled path towards my stand. The smaller buck split off from the larger buck and started heading towards my 9:00 which is directly downwind of me. The larger buck kept heading down the trail, stopped at a scrape with a licking branch, took a piss down his back legs and then started heading towards my 12:00. As this was happening I notice the smaller buck now directly downwind of me is putting his nose in the air and staring in my direction. The larger buck begins to turn and present me with a quartering shot and what is going through my head is "I better take this shot now before the little buck figures me out and blows"!!! So I drew back and launched an arrow..... He jumped and ran ten yards... then took 7 or 8 slow steps and then went out of view disappearing under the canopy of branches. Now I am texting my buddies how I screwed up and missed a nice buck and I'm not worthy of sitting in this stand, etc. So 30 minutes go by and I decide that I at least want to go find my arrow and broad-head. So now I'm on the ground looking around and I notice blood on the ground!!!!! As I am having this epiphany I notice the buck laying under a tree about 25 yards away looking at me!! So I grab my bow and the only shot I had was through his neck so I took it and ended it for him. Turns out my first shot went through his one lung and then passed through his gut on the opposite side. I know I should have just left the woods when I saw him down and waited it out but I couldn't contain my excitement so I took the follow up shot. Can't wait till November 16th.
  4. If the deer eat the buds will they start hitting the food plot real hard?!!?
  5. In a tree hunting while responding to this hunting thread!! Damn tree rats are making so much noise right now!!
  6. What are your thoughts on sitting the same stand multiple days in a row?
  7. I don't think so. I walked in pretty slowly and didn't hear anything bump. Not sure though. How early would you get in?
  8. Been seeing plenty of deer on my camera the past 8 or 9 days from 5:30-7:30am pretty much religiously every day. Went out this morning because the temps had dropped. Got into the stand at 5:15am and sat until 9:00am (had to get my but to work) and I ended up seeing only a doe and a spike, not the usual 4-6 deer I have been seeing on the cam almost every morning for the last week? I'm setup on the inside of a corner where two 300' lengths of chain-link fences meet (good funnel). Sign, rubs and giant scrapes all around, wind was running parallel (NNE) to the one fence side. I showered with the special shampoo, kept my boots outside, washed my clothes with the special detergent and dryer sheets and then hung them outside as well, spayed down 100% before approaching my stand, raked the leaves last week in a path leading up to my stand so as to not make any noise when I got in and out of the stand. Sat as still as a rock the whole time. Gotta love this obsession!! And will gladly do it again on Saturday. So is there anything else I could be doing differently or any other scouting I should be doing right now for further information? Is allowing a couple of days in between sits enough to let an area cool off? Is it unwise to hunt this spot two days in a row like on a weekend?
  9. So yes I would like to hunt the area. Maybe on a travel route to or from this plot.
  10. I would like to make my property a destination or even just a stop along their route as a source of forage. I am planting a line of 6 foot arborvitae trees where my fence line in my backyard borders the area I'm looking to clear. Wanted to do this to offer a break between my yard and the food plot. I'm planting the arborvitae on my side of the fence so they don't destroy them completely.
  11. Thanks for the help everyone!! I'm going to give the Clover a try to start out with. How do I determine if my soil is suitable? I had already done a PH test and determined that I was at 7.0 but I'm also concerned about if I need to introduce fertilizer, etc to the area.
  12. Im looking to put in a small food plot roughly 50 yards away from my house. I am surrounded by land on three sides of my house owned by the Scenic Hudson Land Trust so I really don't have any neighbors. Would I be wasting my time with planting a 3/4 acre food plot and also so close to my home? And if not, what would you plant? I know these are broad questions but I need to start somewhere.
  13. I would happily pay someone knowledgable to put a plot in for me. Anyone who would be interested in some food plot work let me know.
