  1. just my 2 cents, what ant did was not a very good move, I gave up bow hunting years ago because I felt wounding a animal and not recovering it is the worst. We as responsible hunters owe that to the animals and to the sport. As for ant he probably feels real bad and schould have learned a very serious lesson, hell we all learn from our mistakes thats one reason we go on this site to learn and talk about this game we all love, when I used to bow hunt I thought It was the ultimate rush oh well
  2. Im positive the best way to get a trophy buck is to attract the does I think of it as ladies nite bucks are like any other thing with a weenie get the does and the boys will show up and you can take that to the bank! .As for not seeing any bucks I feel that bucks and does are two speices two totally different animals completly!! It may sound dumb BUT some how a good shooter buck seems to know that if he is seen any time any where he is DEAD look at all the fawns born every spring some one s gettin some this just the way Ive got it figured I may be wrong BUT ive had this proven since 1995 consistantly
  3. wow it really sucks getting robbed, are you guys locking the cameras to the trees?? I have had a couple of cases of tresspassers and vandalism I makes me nuts. this summer I found one of my favorite lock back knife just laying on my bb q I hadnt seen that knife in A year or more and heres the kicker I asked every single person that I GIVEN PERMISSION TO go on the property and no one knows anything about it theres a switch
  4. bingo! your face and especially your eyes sometimes I take off the orange hat and hang it from the tree or what ever im using for cover I feel that with the orange hat on the deer will detect the movement of my head moving up and down when Im falling asleep ha ha
  5. hello Im from west babylon and hunt sullivan county welcome
  6. hey guys Im just curious on private land what do you wear, say 90%camo with a orange hat and maybe orange gloves OR the pumkin suit, on state land I always wear orange from the waist up, I used to wear the orange jacket for a lot of years until I hooked up with a group of old buddies who told me If I switched to camo I would see more deer and get more opportunities to shoot! Well I know that deer are suposed to see shades but not colors BUT man they were right hands down In my opinion It was a real game changer and I never looked backl . what do all you guys think???
  7. I have been very lucky that ive only had a couple of hit deer wiith a rifle travel any real distance, uphill or down hill Ive always found that they ALWAYS head for the nearest Im getting the hell outa here trail no exceptions
  8. Thanks for the reply, It makes me feel better. Funny I was crying the blues to a buddy who has hunted with me a few years ago, and he said that I always say Im not seeing anything but manage to score.I guess he is right , but reading the reports hear is better than great,Its like scouting 24/ 7 i SCHOULD HAVE JOINED THIS SITE A LONG TIME AGO every nite I rethink most of my past hunts and try to remember my mistakes, here I learn new stratagies and ideas
  9. hello steve , I own 15 acres but there is a load of adjacent land I hunt, my property is a natural funnel at the top is the road and houses, at the bottom is a big pond and my cabin, so if they move threw they have to pass me and if they want to cross the road they go up my land to cross the road to the nearest finger of woods between the homes. as for pressure I have NEVER encountered a bow hunter , and I once saw a a gun hunter pass thru about 6 years ago! my drive way is 1600 feet long and my cabin can not be seen from the road on occasion I have been known to sit on my porch and hunt lol my best stand is only 40 yards from the cabin hell ive run back to make a sandwich and get a hot coffee and go back talk about being spoiled
  10. I have been up to my cabin every weekend since first week of october and I have not seen a deer, during daylight my trail cameras are catching them but not me. This Is very strange most of the time there are deer all over! Im wondering if the bucks are chasing the unrecepive doe so much that they are all laying low . Also im have not seen one rub! Here in sullivan cty I traditionally see rubs around oct 15, also I am not seeing the usual amount of road kills on route 17 goin up or comming home ( hate seeing road kills) so that tells me the deer are not moving. What do you guys think??? are they in pre rut?
  11. I was a smoker for years and was guilty of smoking on stand twice that Im aware of I totally spooked a big 6 that was moving down a run towards me I saw him late just as he got the smoke sent he slowly went back the way he came that was in the big woods no houses or camps around. The area I hunt now is incredably populated with deer and because there are a load of houses along the roads I feel the deer are big time used to the smells and sounds of people and homes I have hung my hunting clothes by my wood stove for many years and smoked on stand (sometimes) to these deer these smells are natural and have never hurt them. Has anyone noticed how many you see and how close you can get to deer when your on a quad? a quad has hever harmed any deer This would be a recipe for disaster In the BIG woods but not in the pumkin head areas just my 2cents
  12. WOW what a nice reception,I look forward to talking to more of you guys especially to the suffolk guys I watching this site for a while, well you know the old saying two heads are better that one there are some great tips and ideas to be had here. It seems I have been hunting so long maybe I could use some new tactics thanks again
  13. hello two track yes you do go right past me going to livingston manor. The mongaup pond area is a very popular hunting spot, the place I had before monticello was on anderson rd liv man up above the covered bridge campsite, hunted there for around 12 or 13 years, I still hunt there for a day or two to give monticello a rest that area has a LOT of productive state land you schould try there
  14. hello my name is jerry I live in suffolk county ny and I have been hunting for about 4o years in the sullivan county area. I have been hunting out of my cabin in monticello since 1999 with pretty good luck, my land has a load of deer on it so I am pretty selective on what I take, Im not crazy about venison so I only take bucks. I presently hunt by myself but maybe I will meet a future hunting partner on this site who knows It seems like there are some real sharpies here, we can always stand to learn another trick or two looking forward to meeting everyone.
