  1. way to go nice congratulations The best hunting tip I ever got was '' If you want to shoot a big buck just stop shooting small ones'' Its that simple
  2. you can`t be everywhere all the time I WENT THRU THE SAME CRAP and got no where until a buddy recommended trail cameras that changed it all get some pics show them around town ask the questions you know nobody will answer get the word out that the local police and the state police have been given copies of the film and mention casually that your pissed off and mean business ( chances are its your neighbors who have patterned you ) and offered a reward and you will see a difference big time I run nine cameras and have even gotten pics of the local police checking out my cabin and woods a couple of donations goes a long way also even if they dont arrest anyone just the fact they come by is a major biggie good luck
  3. well saturday morning I was out doing a little scouting around on my property and let my guard down,I was busy looking at some huge fresh rubs that were brand new instead of looking were I was walking, dumb amateur move but I couldn't believe the size of the trees that he was beating up (some 8-10 in diameter I never saw anything even close to this) when I got near a big brush pile I heard some movement in the leaves I looked up In time to watch the biggest 10 pointer I ever saw (and I have a 140 class taken in tomkins county hanging in the cabin) trying to sneak away but I got a pretty good look at him. All I can say I at least I didn't scare the daylights out of him so I think I may have a chance to take him In November since nobody bow hunts in the area!!! I haven't been this excited In a long time , I put out 4 trail cams and set up some licking branches and mock scrapes along the side of his rub line to piss him off I cant wait, now I just have to give him a lot of space and keep my fingers crossed!!!!

welcme aboard jo jo where abouts on LI do you live?? Im in west babylon there are a lot of smart hunters here
  5. thank you all for your replies, and ideas and bubba im with you I will probably will forget this dumb idea,It would not pay to hire my attorney to draw up papers I dont know what to think at this point all I can say Is I hope the deer on my land dont read this or they will sue me unless I can prove they were breaking into my cabin with evil intent.I know these fellow members who took the time to reply to me are only trying to keep me from being bushwhacked and yes I never thought about this point BUT when I do think about it I remember why I have loved the woods since I was a little kid now I will rethink the whole idea
  6. hello Im a 60 year old that has had some bad injuries over the years that prevent me from doing many of the maintainance and up grade projects on my sullivan county cabin /hunting camp, It seems all my old hunting partners have gone to the happy hunting ground and my other buddies dont hunt but help me when they can so I feel funny asking them I live in sufflok county.Im thinking of finding a person that hunts by themself has nowhere really to hunt and has the time during the summer months to help work on the place in return for some kind of a mutual arangement (open to ideas) I have not given it a load of thought at this point so im open to ideas The property 15 acres has been a GREAT producer of very respectable bucks every year since 1999 although this year like the last we are are over run with black bears that I have never bothered with just this weekend I was there with the wife and they were raising hell out side.I dont shoot does period and never have, that is a standing rule so if you have year round tme and are looking for a place to hang you camo hat get back to me ps I really cant see shooting the bears last nite was a mother and three cubs for what it proves nothing well thats just me thanks for looking
  7. thanks guys I have noticed alot of acorns I have a lot of oaks on the property, I just didnt think that made such a difference
  8. hey guys A little help needed, I hunt on my property in monticello 3k and Im wondering if somthing is wrong Im not seeing the deer Im used to seeing here Is it because of being chased by bucks that Im not seeing, so they are hiding? The areas is not very high pressured , IM not seeing any rubs or scrapes since last week (opening day week) my camera was getting some pics of small sixes and does, I was over hunting one of my favorite stands What I really think I want know is any one hunting 3k and are they seeing ANY sign of rut activity Basically I want to know WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!! I think Im slipping I hunt by myself these days so maybe Im missing the push from my partners But either way i THINK i NEED ADVICE THANKS
  9. it has nothing to do with deer populations or deer hunting but everything to do with insurance company pay offs and albany money plain and simple
  10. a long time ago when I first started deer hunting I was fed up with shooting little racked rat deer and fed up with myself. One day Iwas talking to this old guy who hunted all over the country for deer he said the secret to shooting big racked deer was simple I laughed and said lets hear It , he said just stop shooting small deer let them go by!! well holy s@#t the man was a genius I never looked back or shot a doe ever again from opening day to this past wedsday I let 2 sixes and a small eight go by I did see a big bruiser, but he busted me long before I saw him! that happens to me a lot it seems and always from this same ground blind In the pines now that think about it at least 4 whoppers that I messed up on then I stew about all year
  11. priceless! welcome aboard, your gonna like it all the best
  12. THATS THE WAY ANTS I think its good karma It helps the big bucks to show up in front of you ha ha what ever it takes even superstition, I will take all the help I can get
  13. PS a while ago (years ) I had one try to come thru my window that was open around 2 oclock in the morning IT TOOK YEARS OFF MY LIFE LOL I wasnt LAUGHING THAT NITE thanks to my 1911 colt I scared the s#%t out of him back
  14. thats How Ifeel this year I have gotten a ton of bear pics on my camera Including some of a bear that has a big white V on his chest I rember seeing him 2-3 years ago when was a little cub. I just cant see shooting a bear for fun ,for a rug ,for sport or any other reason ! I always get a big kick when I see one, sure a rug is cool in a rustic cabin but thats just me
  15. 4 seasons has it right100% I wonder, does anyone know for sure that a 1.5 year spike will be a spike for ever
  16. I have owned three different parcels of landover the years 1-200acres 1-40 acres and now a 15acre parcel and I must advise anyone to be very careful how you handle tresspassers depending on what they are doing, who they are, where they live, and there atitude when confronted.Ihave had many encounters with uninvited people on my land and here are the hard facts!unless you live there year round, hire a caretaker or have a retired buddy who lives very close to your property forget abut the local police they have better things to do!THERE IS NO DEFENCE WHAT SO EVER!! I know two people who were very nasty to some people on there land one had his cabin burnt to the ground months before he found out and another guy in livingston manor who after a few months on his return he found his house empty!!!! right down to cans of beans in the cabinets whoever did this had to have made several trips to his house with a large truck!! And had the balls to leave a note thanking the owner for his polite ways .Think about it the sound of glass breaking or the sound of a chain saw cutting you a new door opening, it only lasts seconds. It has been my experience these people who live nearby or have been tresspassing on your land are using your land more than you!! you just pay the taxes so the best approach is to introduce yourself as the owner find out what they are doing, and feel them out and if they are hunting tell them that they cant use the property to hunt on becauce you hunt there but they are more than welcome to use the property like it was there own and to do you a favor and keep an eye on the place hell they pattern you coming and going like you do a buck, they know when you come and when you go I lost a very expensive knife some wher did not know where 5or 6 months later It showed up on my bb-q really filthy , someone had found it and returned it to me! I asked everypossible person Iknew up there and no one knew anything about it oh well
  17. unfortunatly most of my old hunting buddies have gone to the happy hunting ground and the one or two left have turned in to total idiots whose company I dont care for! Im hoping to maybe meeting someone on on this site to partner up with in the future
  18. I read in mondays 11/11/13 that deer was trapped and got the medical attention it needed!! what a tear jerker although s*&t happens I makes all of us look bad I gave up bow hunting because I saw worse just my call
  19. I feel like a jerk posting this BUT what the hell I hunt in 3k and it has always produced some average to really nice bucks and on several occasions Ive seen some monsters on my property. For some reason I don't have a good feeling this year,I havent seen a deer I a good month no rubs ,no scrapes but my trail cams are showing me a decent 6 (cant see if he has brows) and a few pics of several mystery bucks my buddies think we are looking at 3or 4 different bucks So im wondering If I should pass on the 6/8 and hunt hard on my limited amount of land and hope for the best ?? In past years I have not shot the first buck going by. every year my property has paid off for one of the crew but this year im hunting by myself and I dont have a good feeling. I have in the past let some good shooters go by and never seen another especially since the greedy sob`s changed the Monday opener what do you guys think??
  20. wow im not seeing anything in monticello either I havent seen a deer by me in a month Im starting to get very concerned whatsup?? Im getting pictures on the trail cams but no eye ballers which by me is very odd I usally see 3-4 does every time I go up and only a couple of road kills on 17( Im glad about that but I use that to judge movement) Oh well good luck
  21. mbucks27 report of when he is seeing bucks the moving is very encouraging to me, many heads are better than one, zags idea of slowly still hunting from one of your stands to another it is so simple I just never considered it, duh Instead of saying screw it and heading back to the barn and hanging out, hunting another stand is perfect Im glad I stumbled on this site !!
  22. WOW way to go sam potter he is a beauty
  23. e bay is the bigest fencing scam there is on a lot of things auto, motorcycle parts etc
  24. hey guys how many of you guys do a HONEST all day sit????? as for me I really cant remember if and when I last did one now come on lets be honest on this one!! actually it just came to me I can only think of one hunting bud that used to do it.
  25. hey geno, I have never wounded a deer with a arrow and I bow hunted for many years here in suffolk and up state. And yes I shot every nite in my back yard like you and I had the best of equipment ,and was a better than average shot.W hat made me give It up was on a bow hunt in livingston manor ny MY buddy who is a great bowman took a 15 yard shot at a nice 6 point buck, from a tree stand and on release the deer jumped the string and was hit directly in the eye, the deer totally freaked and went nuts bouncing off every tree and bush as it ran out of sight. So i was the guy who tracked that deer for at least a half a mile thru other peoples property out of season with a rifle to put it out of its misery that was it, I never saw a animal suffer like that. Dont get me wrong I miss bow hunting dearly that was bad. I illegally bow hunting when I was 15 years old on my grandfathers land because dad woudnt give me a gun im 58 now oh yea I miss it
