The Glock 21 (.45) is my gun of choice because it's small enough to carry (technically) and it will knock down just about anything around here, but if I were to only have one pistol for carrying, it wouldn't be the 21 because it's really too big AND the bullets for a .45 are very expensive. I would probably go with a .40 or 9mm. You need to think about the cost of the bullets as even if you're a billionaire, you get to a point where you're like "Hey, this is a tremendous waste of money." Yes, you can make your own, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Also, I'm biased as I only have a few pistols but I can tell you that you can take a Glock, drop it in the sand, kick it off a cliff, poop on it, run over it with your car....and still it will fire and you can field strip it in <10 seconds.

Is "Bear Swamp" an area in the Finger Lakes Forest or do you mean another forest? This might be what you're talking about? http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/34420.html If so, is there a particular place you go there? Thanks.

I'd like to try hunting grouse in the FF Forest. Any thoughts on this? I have flushed out one grouse in two days of walking. The cover was so thick though I couldn't get a shot. I'm told the Aspen tree is a natural habitat for grouse. Does anyone know where in the forest I can find Aspen trees? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's a great idea. People have blinds on the other side of the lake too. I was a little afraid to do it but maybe I will. Someone told me they're all on private land but I can check further. Thanks.

I've never hunted ducks buy would like to this year. I primarily hunt in the southern tier of NY. I've heard you can hunt in the swamp in Watkins Glen, but I'm not sure. Can anyone shed some light on this? Can I do it without a dog? I do have a canoe. Thanks.

I got the topo map for the forest in .PDF format....as big as 70"x70" (so it says). As long as it's legal to post it, if anyone wants it let me know and I can put up a link. If it's not legal for some reason just tell me.

Question: What is good small game this time of year on this land? I still don't bow hunt although I probably will next year, but small game is open. I grew up in Elmira and spent every summer around Watkins and never knew 16,000-ish acres of public hunting land existed. Am I missing something? Thanks for your replies in advance.
