Im stuck in Manhattan at work and its killing me not being in the woods, first time since i was 12 tgat i havnt been hunting opening week.... getting out to long island this week end. Any one hunting the hamptons? Trying to see if anyone is seeing anything...

This was opening day in long island....best part was that i had him on my trail camera most of the summer.... spent many sleepless night thinking about him...

It is a lot, just have to start early in the season and do a lot of door knocking.... There are plenty of people that are fed up with all their shrubs being eaten!

I hunt both public and private and over the past 6 of hunting in long island, I have found that the private spots produce ALOT more then the public.... But my theory on that is that all the private spots I have are a lot smaller in acre size. So I'm able to pattern and find bedding areas easily. In the public spots I hunt they could be a few hundred acres and more so it almost luck if the deer are going to pass your stand that day. For long island I feel the smaller private are key!

I'll trade u those black birds for a nagging day at wor anytime! Can't wait to get back out again! Anyone doing any hunting in the east Hampton or sag harbor area?

Button buck at 5, saw the 8 at 5:30 and then he left and then he brought back the one i shot at 6:30 Thanks guys, the best part is i had this deer on my trail camera back in august and then no sign of him untill 2 weeks ago. Feels good when all the work pays off!

Can you guys list any good butchers on the island? If you have phone numbers that would be great... head back to nassau county so if thete are any along the way then great

Good morning guys, opening day eas a good day! Had does all day, button buck, 4 pointer, 8 pointer, and then a mature 7 pointer with some extra junk follow in the 8. I could see the 8 eas a younger dear so he got the pass.... smoked the 7 at 25 yards! Just trying to figure out how to post a pic from my smart phone

i quess this went over your head... the reason i'm looking for those big deer is because we are letting the smaller bucks good to breed and mature... with you shooting anything you will never have the chance to pass on the good genes or give them a chance to grow to that 140 range.... look i'm not going to keep going on with you.... good luck this season...

So are you saying that bragging sized deer are the only deer one should be allowed to shoot? That is YOUR opinion and surely not that of the DEC or the majority of hunters out there.

i'll tell you what..... who would like to chip in with me to send steve a refund for his hunting lisence this year... just to keep his ignorance out of the woods...haha

I am happy if I fill a tag or two of the deer hunting license I paid for. If I hunted hard and didn't fill any tags, well, then that's just a part of hunting. I surely didn't pay for the tags to just look and wave at the deer and let them pass so YOU can hopefully shoot them in a year or two when they measure up to YOUR numbers. Tough noogans on that one!! see you don't care about deer managment... your the reason why i have to take trips out west every year to even get a shot at buck in the 160-180's. now people atart to freak out when they try to impliment the 3 antler restrictions... you shouldn't be out there worrying about the coast of the lisence...you want to get your moneys worth of meat then shoot does... where are you hunting?

some hunters do care about the score... not just for the trophy end of it, but for the managment part of it... i wont shoot a deer under 120... i have shot plenty of deer and would like to see that deer breed another year and maybe get into that 140-150 range... if i need the meat there are plenty of dry does to shoot... i wish more hunters would think like this... anyone else feel how i do?

i'm hoping 130... that would be a sweet wall hanger... going to check the cam again next tuesday....can't wait! hoping for some better shots of that buck...
