I was on here last year just havent had time to hunt yet this year but that is soon going to change I am in the fort drum area dont know the area that well but know a little if any one wants to meet up and hunt together send me a pm I also finally talked my wife into getting her hunting liscence this year so that should be an intereasting project but well worth it. Next task will be teaching the kids how to hunt.

going to head out for an eavening hunt this pm up here by fort drum. I have only been able to get out once so far this year and as we all know you cant have any luck if your not in the woods. I would go for the am hunt but am currently on a 24 hr shift. Has anyone seen any signs of life here by ft drum I usually go up to Jadwin state forest but havent been able to scout this year. plenty of activity on post but not in the areas that you can hunt.

Sorry for your loss. As the others have said though at least he went out with his boots on. And with a last shot at one. I know these things are not easy but his memories will remain and the devotion he showed for the sport of hunting will last forever. hang in there and be proud of a true sportsman.

yes I am talking about gun season (I missed my bow hunter safety course). that makes alot of sence though. i can see how both techniques will work. I havent tied the fawn distress calls though i have no clue what they are sapposed to sound like.

well I no longer have a buck tag so as nice as it would be to see a big monster I think its best to not be tempted. I just picture it every time I go out that a nice 8-10 pointer will come walking my way and I will have no choice but to let him pass.

I will have to try that will it still work this late in the year though? I have 2 tags left to fill.

I usually much on trail mix or sunflower seeds if nothing else the shells from the seeds make the squirrels come out and as long as there occupied with the shells their not half as annoying. water and energy drinks are a must for me though I am a true caffeen junkie.

is there a different technique for hunting does than bucks? I would imagine that the calls and scents dont work as well or even scare them off. I know that before I started using calls and stuff all I would see are does now that I used my buck tag I havent seen anything. would using a buck scent this time of year be a little more effective or would it scare them off. I am always looking for more advice and ways to improve as a hunter so any advice would be welcome and appreciated.

thanks. I thought for sure it was a doe though this is the first year I have gotten a doe tag. thats all I have seen in the past were does. and had to pass them up. now I have to find a butcher in my area.

well after 3 yrs of trying I finally got my first deer. I have been going out about every weekend and any chance I got during the work week . Every time I went out with someone I helped them drag one back asking myself if I was ever going to get my chance. last night just as the sun was getting ready to go down and the woods turned to that nice orange glow I decided to hit my bleat one last time and then came the rustling in the leaves to my left. So I hit the bleat one more time then immediately hit the grunt tube after it. The deer jumped up and ran to a hillside about 200 yards away and hid behind a tree. I thought for sure it was a doe so I drew up on it with my 30-06 and waited for it to step out. Then after about 2 min he finally took that fatal step. Boom I let him have it he took one step then dropped right there. After 2 to 3 kicks he was done. By the time I got to him the sun was setting even faster so after checking my shot (right through both lungs ) I started gutting it by then it was pretty dark and after letting a buddy barrow my knife it was extremely dull. So my first gut job was in the dark with a dull knife oh and my flash light fell into the pool of blood that had developed inside him and had a nice red glow to it. Then the drag back to the truck about 1-2 miles through the thorn bushes then swamp then the fun hills of the western Adirondacks (Jadwin State forest) 2 and a half hours later I had my first deer sitting at the back of my truck trying to figure out how I was going to get it loaded into the truck. With the use of a couple ratchet straps and some good old fashioned muscle I was on my way home.

well I filled my buck tag yesterday evening now I have to find a place to get it cut up anyone have any ideas.

anyone here hunt in the fort drum area. State Hunting land is hard to find up here besides Jadwin state forest. so I was wondering if anyone knew of other areas to hunt. there is always the training areas but there have become fewer signs of life out there over the years.

Congrats wish I had that kind of luck. So far this year everyone I have gone out with has at least gotten a shot off at one the latest this weekend filled both of his tags. I however was left with a turkey that I hit on the drive home lol.

New to the forum just wondering how many NAHC members ut there and where are you from? I am a life member currently living in the fort drum area. I mainly hunt the 6h 6g and 6k area in th northern zone the southern zone for me is usually 7a however i am trying tho venture into the 8f area. I have been out of NY for about 9 yrs now due to the Army but stationed back home and loving it. Although it sucks how much you forget of an area in 9 yrs. I am still trying to find the great hunting spots again.
