I think we talked before and in your location it is similar to other areas in Steuben. I'm in Chemung and have a similar setup (new garage/barn next year). I figure we will be right around $8k in taxes in Chemung County with a 3000 sq.ft. house. You could move to another area where taxes aren't as bad. I don't blame you for wanting to leave.

@chas0218 holy hell. 15 zucchini? i had 6 plants and we ate it all summer, gave some away, and could probably use it as clean fill. lol better stay on those every day.
Mixture of Zuchs and summer squash. I plan on canning some zucchini relish and the rest just canned for consumption in the winter months. We plan on doing Zucchini Zoodles basically noodles made from zucchini or squash. It is much healthier and we won't need to buy spaghetti pasta anymore. We will still use elbows and such but we like our pasta and this is a low carb way of making spaghetti.
Edit: My wife informed me there were only 12 Zucchs and squash. The others are acorn and butternut squash.

We put in a nice sized garden up at or cottage. I'm now shopping around for some drip irrigation. 3 30' rows of corn corn 3 30' rows of snap beans 12 tomato plants, 15 summer squash/zucchini only 6 bell peppers. Adding cantaloupe, and watermelon. Garden is 50' long x 60' wide. Looking forward to canning and freezing some veggies this year.

If you put a thumbhole stock on it you must register it.

So you think it's fine to screw one guy and not the other. Let me ask you. If Wild CWD is a mile from my house and then I get found with one you think it's fine and dandy to kill all the animals behind fence for pennies on the dollar and lock down all fenced in land for no use for at least 5 years and do nothing about the positive 1 mile away? Same animals but one is locked in and the other is free to carry on spreading the same disease for miles around?
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkIf they did have to come and put all animals down and not allowed to use said land there should be a tax exemption for those years that it can not be used at a minimum. Should also be reimbursed on lost revenue. It happens with livestock and no offense it is basically the same thing you're raising animals for harvest, no different than a beef farm. Same would happen with mad cow outbreak on a farm.

6.8 spc II - 6.8 is now extinct I think (at least everything new is SPC II which is higher velocity).
Gotcha, thanks. Seem like a pretty accurate round? Seems like a nice alternative to the .300 blackout round.

Most cops don't like the safe act either from those I have talked to at least. If one is conducting themselves as a responsible adult, I seriously doubt anyone will break chops. Pin the mag and hunt with it with a 5 round limiter.
In response to the original question, the 6.8 I sighted in yesterday is pretty quiet, has no kick and has enough power to kill deer and smaller game like yotes if desired. Seems like a good choice.
Was that the 6.8 SPC?

I like diner coffee, usually nice and strong and the waitress always fills me up free of charge.

Seeing that I don’t drink coffee, I could care less.
One does not order just coffee at Starbucks, you need to order something like a vanilla chai, latte with extra turbo shot, with the extra super special caffeine mocha caramel froth topped off with a cherry and organic skim fat free whipped cream.

Who is annoyed by theses people that stand along the access ways to malls and openly panhandle? They carry signs that indicate they're broke, homeless or in need of gasoline to "get home"..
I was so annoyed at one the other day by the local Walmart as a healthy looking younger woman who was nicely dressed, new designer sneakers and a small backpack was showing a sign "need money to get home safely"....
While the wife was shopping I went to the customer service counter and inquired if they were hiring and the reply was they are always hiring. I politely obtained a application for employment from the customer service worker.
As we left I had the wife pull over by this woman and I summoned her over and provided her with the application, directions to the service counter and I gave her a pen. I very politely told her that if she was in need of money, they were hiring immediately and she could obtain employment and make as much as she wanted through employment. After blank stares from her we drove away and she declined to take the application.
Sad, but I guess she was holding out for a managerial position.....
What's sad is that it's happening more and more. No one wants to work for what they want.
I have 2 younger sisters and sister in law that have had everything handed to them guess who has an education, job, homes, vehicles. Being given everything they have no sense of responsibility and feel that if they want something they should just be given it. Gotta thank mom for that BS. My oldest sister does have a home now but one her BF bought, if it weren't for him she wouldn't have a pot to piss in.

That makes 2 of us, honestly who would have known what you did anyway. A taurus judge or similar would be sufficient.

If you don’t reload and want a ar15 I think a 450bushmaster is hard to beat. I had a 458 socom but find the bushy to be more versatile and factory ammo is becoming more and more available. I think a 300bo is anemic at best and wouldn’t be in my top 10 deer cartridges very light bullets for caliber. The various 6.5’s are intriguing but not my style.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI couldn't agree more. The .300 B.O. round was intended to be shot subsonic using cans. Kind of useless for us here in NY. Although the Subsonic round would be nice for popping yotes out the back window of the house and not waking up the neighbors and kids.

there's so many mods out there to get around the NY SAFE Act. I learn a new one everyday I'm at the rod and gun club next door. newest one that addresses safety issues with some of them when having a jam or similar malfunction is flipping a spring and dremel one of the pins. i forget the exact ones to for better reference, but it makes it into a repeater and not a semi-auto. each fired round had the slide locked back. you push the slide release button though and it loads another. it's a permanent mod that allows whatever features you want. even another accessory to add on that's a bulky lever positioned close to your shooting hand to more easily and quickly hit the slide release. still a slippery slope though as i'm not sure if it's a valid fix if you can just hold the button down and fire what is effectively semi-auto.
But what they don't know won't hurt them....

I didn't start this thread lol it wasn't my question I have precision rifles for long range or short range ..
No I was referring to the OP with the questions. I'll admit I'm a shooter in many people's eyes. For me deer hunting is all about the challenge. If I have a rifle I want a challenge and don't setup right on deer so I have to take a longer shot that are more challenging for me. When I'm bowhunting I setup right on the deer as there are many more variables that effect success other than range. Not to mention the range is much more limited with my bow.

To be honest unless you own your own property or use the ar just for coyote hunting at night you will get harrassed bye any leo or at least get a rifle check for compliance that's the sad part about today I have heard many story's of people getting into argumants with a Leo just because of a pinned mag ...it's a sad world we live in today
In my area they won't harass you unless they get complaints of someone shooting too close to a house or something of that extent. I have talked to some of the locals and troopers in our area about it. They have said that if they want to check it they will look at the mag size and then press the mag release button. IF nothing happens (mag stays put) then you're good. If you explain that it is a .450/.458 and that you can only fit the 10 should understand.
My SIL boy friend is a town cop and has no clue about guns other than the pistols he carries along with how to operate the guns in their arsenal. So if he stopped someone he wouldn't have a clue about it. He has told me that he has told people to cover it up after he has pulled them over. He also asks them to step out of the car if it is in plain sight.
Back to the OP I think the .450/.458 would make a killer deer gun if you want DRT kind of results. I think there are a few others that will also give you those results in smaller calibers. The Rem. 6.8 SPC is a good round. .300 blackout would make a good deer round. All these would be 200-300 yards or less effective range. I mean if they can take a hog at those ranges then it shouldn't have a problem taking a deer. 6.5 creedmore and Grendel are also great rounds and will reach out a lot further. I don't think the .450/.458 out past 200 will be as accurate as the smaller faster cartridges although it has a better B.C. than some.
What is your end goal? Long range? Short Range? Both? Accuracy and precision? At what range can you be accurate?

i get what you're saying and agree, but the context of my post had nothing to do with the actual firearm. it's all related to owning a high capacity magazine. standard 5.56 mags can be used with a 458 socom without any modifications i believe. doesn't matter that your using it for only a 458. as is it'd be able to hold a function with more 10 rounds of 5.56/223. you don't even have to have a gun, just the mag itself is illegal. i'd think if it was stamped 458 socom and had a follower with a centered groove so that 5.56 rounds wouldn't align right in a double stack configuration to function then logic would say it's perfectly legal. not sure that's been confirmed though. it means a lot. only being able to load less than a handful of rounds into a mag doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
I get that but I'm saying is that it wouldn't be high capacity if it was paired with the .450/.458 upper. High capacity is defined as holding more than 10 rounds. So if you can only fit 10 rounds it is not high capacity. Now if you were to do something illegal like load it with 5.56/.223 rounds then it would be considered high capacity. The only way to guarantee to not get your ass in a bind is to use 10rnd. mag and only hold 5 of the .450/.458

Sure, if you have a pinned mag, but you dont need a pinned mag to be legal.
Actually, I take that back. Still need the correct follower and markings. You can have a 458 mag pinned in your lower and still slap a 556 upper on it.
Yup, there in lies the issue.

What if you own multiple uppers? Its not that simple.
You would think it is, but I wouldn't put it past the state to charge a person for it, BUT if it is a fixed mag style gun then with the .450 upper attached they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The problem is when it's detachable so going featureless with detachable mag could get you in a lot of trouble.

I have sign back in my food plot of some little ones. Their prints are about 1" long in the mud. My son thought it was pretty cool and thinks I have to throw up my cams.

Yeah our previous house had $4k in taxes it was 1/3 of an acre with houses on all sides. Also had the highway close enough where you could barely carry on a conversation in the backyard. I'm happy to be where I am even with the higher taxes, we plan on leaving once we retire to a more northern area near my parents probably still in NY though.
