  1. I had some woods I hunted a couple of years ago and you couldn't go 20 yards without getting ticks on you. I went to the Dollar General and bought some kind of spray they had for 2 for $5 that had  Permethrin in it. I would just spray it on me and then use a cover spray over that and no problem. The stuff wasn't real strong smelling anyways.

Looks like an old buck from the photo.

In this picture he does, but I have another picture of him from late July during the day and he really doesn't look that old. I thought maybe he got hurt at some point and that's why his rack is so odd. It doesn't seem to be broken, it's just the way it grew. Doesn't matter, I like the odd rack so I want him.

If it’s “to each their own” why would you make that statement at all...hence telling people how they should think

Better read it again, I never told anybody how to think.

Lots of folks have that same hang-up.  They don't think He has time to mess with little things, like deer and fish, when there are bigger problems, such as curing cancer, that He could spend time on .   Such thinking implies that there are limits on what He can do.

The Bible tells us otherwise. One example, that can be found in the 21st chapter of John, mentions some disciples who had fished all night (the time that was usually best), and not caught anything.   Do you remember what happened when Jesus said to them "throw your net out on the right side of the boat and you will catch some" ?  The nets were so filled, that other boats had to be called to help haul them in.

Can you provide just a single example that indicates that there are limits on what He can do ?   The fact is, He wants to bless His followers.  The Bible story that I referenced, was very similar to an experience that a buddy and I had a few years ago down on Findley lake.  We had fished from sunrise until noon, with not so much as a bite, on a late summer day.   We came back in for lunch and our families thought we were foolish for heading back out when clearly there was a big storm on the way.  We donned our rain-gear and went back out.

When the storm hit the rain must have completed a circuit and caused our boat's radio to come on.  It was tuned onto some local Christian channel and the song was about Jesus.  At that very instant, the fish began to hit as I had never seen before on that lake. In the next hour we landed 15 northern pike (many in the 30 inch class) and 3 nice smallmouth bass (which ended up as dinner).

When it comes to deer, I can not think of a single one where He did not play the primary role, and I can not put to words how much "easier" it has become since I made that connection.

I hate to be the one to say it, but God or Jesus had nothing to do with the fish starting to bite. As someone that fishes for pike all the time for the last 40 years I can tell you that is classic pike fishing. You won't catch nothing all day long and then all of a sudden...bang! The next hour you catch a bunch, and then it's done again just as fast. Oh yeah, lets not forget about the front that came through changing the nice weather into not so nice weather.

But in the end, if you need to think it was God or Jesus or whoever else that got you those fish then go ahead, to each his own.

  5. 4 or 5 years ago we lived in an apartment complex and there was a little stretch of woods behind us. I went and asked the old lady that owned them if my dad and I could hunt them and she said yes. So we could just walk out of my building and in 15 minutes we were sitting in our spots.

Well one afternoon I couldn't hunt but my dad was headed back there with the crossbow. As he started up the trail one of the ladies in my building saw him and came out and started asking where the hell that guy was going. I'm just like, hunting. She starts yelling saying he can't hunt back there. I explain to her that he can as long as he is the proper distance from the buildings. She then said it's private property, which I agreed with her on and then explained to her that we had permission to be there by the owner. Then she said she was calling the cops. I'm like, go ahead, but just so you know, you are gonna lose this one because he is not doing anything wrong. I guess she never called the cops.

Sounds like the o-rings were never installed.

The o-rings were installed. They just never stayed close. I read some people said to take the o-ring off and put it on again, change the o-ring, I did all that and still they opened up. My father had the same problem.

In fact when I bought the Grim Reapers the reason I bought them was because there was another customer there looking at stuff and he saw me pick up the Reapers and he said that he had them and he loved them. I said I was switching because of the problems I have had with the Rage heads and he said that's why he switched too.

  7. Sit in a tree to far away and you have no chance at all. Sit in the other tree with no cover and have a chance. Hmmm.....not a real hard choice for me! My stand you can see in the tree half a mile away, and I sit in a 12 foot ladder stand and shoot deer out of it every year.

  8. I will never use a Rage again, ever! The blades kept popping open on me. I walk in to the stand get an arrow out and the blades are open. What finally finished it for me was sitting in the stand for a few hours one day and it was windy and I looked over and the blades were open again, just from hanging there, and I know the were set when I hung the bow up. I climbed out of my stand went to Dicks and bought some Grim Reapers and have never looked back.

I have seen that same complaint over and over about Rage through the years now, although I here they are better then they were back then. I don't see myself ever changing after using the Grim Reapers now.

  9. I never understood why anyone would pay so much money for stuff, like $1000 for a bow, when you can spend a hell of a lot less and get the same results. My bow was $400 loaded with everything I needed for it and that was 6 years ago. I shoot the cheapest arrows I can for it and it kills deer just fine. I buy stuff like broadheads from Amazon because they are cheaper.

My feet always get cold.what do you guys use to keep your feet warm? I bring fresh pair of socks handwarmer and slippers it's just a pain to take your boots off and go threw the process.

I used to have trouble keeping my feet warm, not now. I got a good pair of boots from Gander Mountain, they were like $150 but worth every penny. They are rated for like 40 below or something. My feet never get cold now, or even cool. I just were a pair of regular socks with a heavier pair over the top if the temperature gets below 20 degrees, if above 20 just a regular pair of socks.

I have a friend that loves the kidneys. He just fries them in a pan with some butter. They are actually pretty good.

So I see comments on here about peeing off tree stands and peeing in scrapes. This is something that I would never think of doing. I can't imagine that human urine is even close in scent to deer urine and would definitely alert them. When I have to pee, I walk 30 to 40 yards up behind my stand to go and I still feel like I could be compromising my hunt. My days of sitting 8 hours without taking a leak are behind me. I'm contemplating a pee jug. Am I being paranoid? For the people who pee care free, what is your actual experience?

This is interesting topic, I just read an article on it about a month ago. I'll sum it up quick.

It basically said that yes it smells different to the deer and they relate it to some kind of predator, BUT, they don't know it's a human scent. They would actually have to see you pee and then go smell it to put it to a human. They smell predator pee and scent every where they go so it doesn't bother them. If the smell of pee bothered them then they would be going crazy all the time.

I have always gone right from my stand and have never seen any negative effects. In fact a couple weeks ago I went one morning about 30 feet from where I parked my ATV and not 15 minutes later after I got in the stand I looked over and there was a doe and a fawn standing about 10 feet from where I went, they didn't even pay any attention to it.

  13. I'm 43 and still hunt with my dad everyday. He was there when I shot my first buck and gave me a big hug for it. He was there 4 years ago when I got my first bow kill, another buck, another hug. Those are memories I would never trade for anything. Now I take my 9 year old son out with me a lot. I can't wait for those moments with him.
