  1. I have yet to chime in this season, hope everyone is staying safe and finding some success in the woods.

Getting blown around in 8N today.  I wouldn’t want to be much higher up.  While entering the woods I spooked two does that we’re bedded below my stand.

I have a few apples on the trees in my backyard and each evening there is a doe that visits.  This doe has an incredibly distended stomach (see pics, although I don’t think they do this belly justice) She looks pregnant.  Any idea what’s going on here?

  2. Another quiet morning in 8N.  I’ve been out six times this season, hunting private and public land and out until noon every time.  I’ve only heard one faint distant gobble.  I guess I’m a glutton for punishment.

I have enjoyed reading this thread, congrats to all who have harvested a bird or two.

    Has anyone found morels yet?

  3. Hit some public land from 10-12:00 today. Heard a gobble way off in the distance and drove to a place I could access. Walked into the woods and sat down to wait if he would gobble again. A minute later he startled me with a gobble 80yds off, unfortunately on the other side of a downed tree 40yds out. A few yelps and he came in quickly, but wouldn't cross the tree. I had a bead on his head but I'm not practiced at that distance. He sauntered off gobbling the whole time. Then a group of four jakes came through and did the same thing. Damn log!

That was probably the most exciting turkey hunt I've ever had.

What time do you go sit to listen for a bird on the roost?

  4. Just shot my first turkey ever! A Jake came in silently at 6:10 this morning, right to my decoy. I was set up in a large oak forest. Walking out around 6:30 I spooked a hen off the roost.

Now I can focus my attention on a mature gobbler to fill my second tag. 6:40 and I was home drinking coffee! What a day!
