  1. I sat in a tree on the other side of that thick stuff but heard lots of activity where I placed that camera. Only way to hunt that spot is from the ground. Sat against some brush and a tree and the deer walked within ten yards of me.
  2. did see a button almost every time out...It amazed me how much bigger it got from Oct till the End of december.
  3. Thanks for the confident reply...well I guess I'll have to keep looking for the big one. Thanks guys for your help.
  4. your right does look short...Looks like a big belly though... can you tell if it is a buck by that hair on the belly or do some does have that as well?
  5. I have found some big tracks in a spot I hunt but never saw the buck during season...Put a cam out a not long ago and got this pic...Can you tell by the body if this is a good sized buck or not enough to tell...notice the white sticking out on the belly, made me think buck but dont know...the deer is about 7 feet from the cam if that helps and the deer already dropped their antlers...any experienced opinion would be greatly appreciated.
  6. High- Got a bit more serious this year and spent the most time I have ever in the woods. Saw many deer close..most does and a couple of buttons. Even hunted the ground in a think area and had deer within 6 yards of me several times...exciting. I would have to say just learning more and gaining much more excitment for the sport was my high. Low- Not taking a shot at a few fat does about 10 yards out on several different days. Wish I would have haverested a deer. Also a low was my stand placement... heard a lot more deer then I actually saw was about 20 yards in the wrong direction...thick area.... a few yards would have made a big difference.
  7. Rich thanks for the input. I got to shot the crx and man waht a bow...I think i'm sold. The wife is certainly not sold though
  8. I just really got the bug this year and cant wait till oct first. Already had the camera out and just continue to search for new spots. Need to harvest a buck badly!
  9. Thanks for the replies! All the feedback is great and is making think about a lot more. I'm not to worried about the speed, I've been shooting a Royal Hunter from 1989 for the last four years and I know all the new bows are plenty fast for my needs...like you guys mentioned more worrried about the bow feeling comfortable to shoot. thanks again.
  10. I am finally going to purchase a new bow. Looked at both the z7 extreme and the hoyt crx. I was looking to see if anyboby had some feedback to give me on either. This is going to be a big purchase for me so I would appreciate the commets. I held and drew both and I liked the crx a bit more.
  11. would you be will to work a trade? I have a ton of very good surf fishing gear...Just really starting to get into hunting seriously and need to trade off some other stuff
  12. I have only hunted for four years and have only taken one mature doe. I have no intrest in shooting yearling bucks at all. I have had chances at spikes and buttons and it never even crossed my mind to draw on them. I am just now getting into the different discussions about hunting and have absolutly no idea why anyone would want to shoot yearling bucks unless their family is going hungry. Let them walk and let New York bucks get some age! Just my newbie thoughts.
  13. This is the exact situation that has kept me from hunting opening day a couple of years. People really do need to smarten up and act like adults. Its amazing that these types of things happen with grown men. I am glad you are home safe! It makes me think that being in a tree on opening day keeps you just a bit safer due to the angle of shots.
  14. Thanks for the advice Muzzy! Good idea I wont burn out my stands, I'll burn out my brother in laws. I heard there was a nice buck taken on your farm, what ever happen with that situation?
  15. I've been bow hunting for four years and have only shot one doe( last year). This year I made more time to spend in the woods and I have seen more deer, just not bucks that I want to shot (a few buttons). I am a little frustrated that I didnt shot at same mature does early, but this year I really wanted a buck. How do you guys feel the later part of the season is here on the Island. I will be hunting weekends and vactions, I'm a teacher. Should I still have high hopes or just enjoy my time in the woods. Thanks for the advice.
