Tc axis is a great gun for the money. That being said All these calibers will kill deer. In alot of peoples opinion in cluding mine 223 and 243 is on the light side. I love the .270. It is my favorite round. You can get 100 grain bullets for varmiting, and 150 grain for deer. I really like 130 grain for both. Their is a hole list of gret calibers. 308,30-06, 257 roberts, 7mm-08 are just a few of the standards. Shot placement is key. You gotta hit em right. Happy buying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the guys still hunting wind can be a plus Go slow and really look. Two years ago shot a nice nine pointer in his bed. Real windy out. Took three shots to hit him and he never got out of his bed. Wind had him messed up. This year I got a small eight the same way, but got him first shot.

No didn't mean just spotting. I like to spot light too. Seen alot of nice bucks over the years. This fellow was a jacker. he was a local guy. Talked to a trooper about it later on. Nothing was ever done. I think the Dec officers were afraid of these guys.Used to be a big problem around here. I don't think quite as much anymore.

I think that double with some 00 buck would be perfect. Had to say it. But where I hunt prob work well. Killed alot of deer with 35 rem with a peep at 20 yards in the balsam swamps.

That bothers me, But not as bad as the spotlighters. Saw a guy a few years ago doing it and followed him around for about an hour . He didn't have the nuts to stop. Wish he would have. My old man always said that they never got an experience a nice buck coming down a runway to them . To bad. Thats what its all about.

NY conservation fund being Raped still by crooked poloticians

The part that really gulls me about NYS is you pay all the money for lic. and stuff and they don't do what they should. Went to Colorado the last two years and couldn't believe how they managed their fisheries and wildlife. It was amazing. Alls NY is concerned about is how many Lic. they sell a year. Then they don't use it for what it was attended for. > > -
Weight also helps hold steadier. Recoil really doesn't bother me. My 300 wsm micro hunter has quite a bit of recoil. My buddy has one in a Tikka T3 that kicks like a mule.

Love the gun. Wish it would go on a diet. Heavy gun to be still hunting with. Last few days carried my 300 wsm browning a-bolt micro hunter.

hunting public land in the Adirondacks worth it? Opinions Please?

Another piece of advice, with your game camera theory is that during the rut the bucks travel a great distance to find does. Alot further than in the south because their is not as many does in an area.So just because you don't see big bucks early doesn't mean they won't move in or out. A few years ago we hunted the same drive all year kept seeing the same few does. Last weekend of the season we killed three bucks off the drive. One was a 140 class buck. Must of been a hot doe in the area. -

Better to hunt when snow is on and rut is on. Alot of guys get sick of hunting to early and quit. Took our group over 5 years to learn the area that we hunt and sort of figure out what the deer are going to do. So don't get disgusted to fast. Been hunting the same area for 20 years and still get taught a lesson from the deer most of the time. -

Doc thats were I hunt all the time. If you are willing to put a lot of time in and walk alot it can be rewarding. I like taking off for the day and not seeing another hunter. I usually average seeing a couple of deer a weekend. It may be a tail or a doe. If I see a deer I feel like I ve accomplished my mission. If I see a buck it is a real treat. If you do my advice is get a good GPS. Priceless On another note I met the Sallarno brothers. Talked with them a couple years ago. Seem like good guys. They hunt the high peaks around Keene Valley -
I hunt big woods in the Adirondacks. Hard to scout everyplace I hunt. Try to cover as many miles as I can in early season and then hone in on the areas that have the most sign. Last buck i got was three and a half miles in by myself. What a job getting it out 7 hour drag. Need to start carrying game bags and butchering in the woods

WOuldn't live anywhere else. Go out my front door and thousands of acres of state land. The only other place I would rather be is Colorado, but it would probably get old climbing the mountains all day.

I have 6 leupolds. VXII. Good scopes. My buddy just bought a new redfield. Very impressed with it. Clear scope, priced right. He has it on a 300 wsm. Seems to be working good for him. He has hunted all season here and early elk season in Colorado. I may buy one for my next rifle.
