While I'm issuing get out of work cards, I'm printing one for myself this PM. Too nice a day to stay in the office.

Good to know it is not permanent and that Chef can come back if he chooses. I hope he chooses to do so. Only met him once at the GTG he organized a few years back, but appreciate his contribution to the forum.Bingo.
Chef will be allowed back if he chooses. The thread is gone for good though, which is a bummer, I’ve posted in it and it’s been a good source of crap to send my friends outside of here.

That was Chef who got the half rack.Congrats spaceman and jerkman!
Jerk I’m curious, did you know he was a half rack or was it an unpleasant surprise when you found him?

I have been busted by does complete with stomping and blowing and just being a nuisance, and had another deer follow a few minutes later and not react. That might be an anomaly, but it has happened to me more than a couple times. It's the rut with peak breeding around the corner. If doe bust you and leave a buck that's with them or tailing them will to. Any buck old for its area will often not come out if it sees or hears deer getting spooked. Deer have interdigital glands. When they bust you they stomp and leave a record to every other deer well after the fact that they encountered danger. If that happens enough deer will associate that area with danger. So yea it's important.

Poor acorn crop where I hunt too this year, but with the warm weather the thorny vines are still green. I think the deer are eating that and mushrooms and raiding the neighborhoods for whatever they can find. The last thing the buck I shot this weekend ate was some dried oak leaves.....that can't be good.If you don't have agg around right now, what are the deer eating?
They cleaned the shit out of the acorns this year, literally none left in my woods. Got a few apples left on the tree but not many, anyone having any good luck?
I hunt a big hay field with a stream and some open timber, not having much luck.

Looked to be both lungs. The deer could have been much closer to broadside than I recalled....either that, or the arrow deflected on a bone. Two blades on the broadhead were damaged, one blade looked almost serrated from the impact with bone. The entry was definitely higher than I was aiming (see photo that shows entry). When gutting, I felt around very carefully (obviously) for the arrow shaft before cutting the diaphragm and did not feel it. The arrow shaft was in the chest cavity with a lot of blood, as one might expect. I did not take photos of the eviceration.

If the target buck sees the other non-target deer acting skittish, I could see the buck taking evasive action.

What an encounter Chef. Wish it ended with hero pics. That sucks!I’m so it’s time for me to put today’s hunt on paper..
Got in at noon. Did a buck bomb when I got to my stand. At just before 2 I start getting hits on my cell cam which is about 180 yards or so down wind from where I am at. I then look and see this pic. Not so interested in the buck in the foreground but the guy in the background is a bruiser.
About 15 min go by and I notice some movement in the brush about 100 yards out moving parallel to me. I then see a giant rack and see he isn’t coming my way. I hit the grunt tube and he trots in my direction but stops at about 50 when he notices the other buck my target buck. They kind of stare at eachother and scrape the ground. My target buck moves so he is broadside at about 35 but his vitals are covered by a tree. I grunt again to try and get him to move but instead this much bigger buck that I have never see before kind of pushes him out and takes his place in that exact spot. He seems to be stating to come out from behind the tree. I raise the x bow and he stops. Still covered. I hear crunching coming from my other side and notice that he does too. He is staring where the noise is coming from not moving At all. I slowly turn my head fully expecting to see a 3rd buck… but I don’t I see another hunter with his climber on his back headed right at us. I hit the grunt tube louder trying to get his attention. It doesn’t work but the deer is still locked on him… I’m now waving my off side arm trying shoe him away but he’s not seeing it.. I grunt again louder and it works it gets the hunters attention. He turns to leave and as he does the buck takes off the other way not giving me a shot
What a cool awesome and sad day

This was a PM hunt of a scrape line near bedding. The shot was taken about 25 minutes before sunset from a climber about 16 feet high and the deer was about 17 yards out. The deer was somewhat quartering to. The arrow hit around B8 but no pass through with the lighted nock confirming that the arrow was lodged in the deer.
The deer turned 180 degrees back towards bedding, and was out sight within 35 -40 yards in cover. The compass heading from stand to last sighting was due north. I heard what might have been the deer falling, but was not accompanied by the sound of kicking that sometimes occurs when a deer expires.
Roughly 20 minutes after the shot had passed with no further sounds at which time I descended and began the reconnaissance. No blood was found at the point of impact or within the next 20 yards of following deer tracks in the northerly direction at which point the broken arrow was found. The broken arrow was left as a marker with a strip of paper tissue on a twig as a marker. I advanced the track another 10 yards, at which point I heard a deer walking. Unsure of the hit and with no blood trail. I made the decision to back out.
Tracking resumed the following morning with my son's assistance, starting at the broken arrow marker. We advanced the track 20 yards, when the white belly of the deer became visible about another 20 yards and at that point we started to see some blood.
Total track was probably 80 yards and the deer died very quickly. In hindsight advancing the track on the previous evening another 30 yards or so and the deer would have been found. However, I think the decision to back out was the correct one given the circumstances.
Not sure if this is helpful to others, but figured I'd post it here and invite critiques.

Not live from the woods but arrowed this guy at around 5:20 last night and recovered it this AM. I thought I heard him go down, but because it was somewhat quartering to I decided to leave it overnight. Deer went less than 100 yards. I will write something up in Crappie's thread.

I'm in on public in 1C. Scrape was worked recently, but I think it belongs to a young deer. I'm getting less picky as time goes by though.

Good luck all! Skipped the AM hunt. Have grandkid's soccer game at 1. It will take a near miracle to find an open spot on public this PM, but that's my plan.

I hardly hunt AMs anymore. So my stats are heavily PM biased.

Only shoulder shot I experienced, the arrow sounded loud, like it hit plywood little penetration, blood stopped quick. Did not recover that deer. Hope you recover it.

I'm in 1C. First time in this spot this season. Found a fresh scrape close to the truck, so I am in the climber a few yards away hoping to see who made it. Wind is fickle though
