Thanks , have you used your 708 on elk with the TTSX ?

No, I have not. I use the 30-06 with 180 Nosler Partitions for elk. I have buddies that use the 7mm-08 on elk and swear by it though. BTW, I gave up reloading a long time ago. All my ammo is factory these days.

The caribou in my ID photo to the left was shot with a 7mm-08 120 TTSX as was my second bull on that trip.

you bet you bippy[that was from hee haw god im showing my age!!!!]im retiring in sept. no way can I live in ny the taxes ,the state surcharge and state surcharge fee [ if you look on any of you bills cable /electric ect.. you'll see it]  the medical cost insurance cost .Its either penn or north Carolina, florida does nothing for me

Actually, it was from Laugh In

  3. I spent 3 full weeks at camp and didn't see a single piece of bone. It snowed so much, I couldn't still hunt because the powder was so slippery and our property is very steep. Managed a big  lone doe on my last day at camp with a .300 Savage 99 that I picked up the day before I left Florida for the trip north. Was very pleased with that. So, no buck this year, but at least I put some meat in the freezer. Congrats to all who harvested a deer and better luck next year to those that didn't.

  4. They should make very public examples of these steaming piles of dog sh*t. Splash their pictures everywhere. DEC has a section in the hunting compendium that shows ECO's and their efforts during the year. Why not also display photos of all the perps convicted so everyone, including those in their community, can see and shame them.

Cover with a can of cream of

Mushroom soup and a packet of onion soup mix, wrap tight in foil and put in the oven at 350 for about an hour. Comes out with its own gravy

I do the same, only in a crock pot. Hold the foil. I also add carrots, celery and button mushrooms.

It’s impossible, too many factors. Back in 1970 sports afield magazine named Larry Benoit the best deer hunter in America. Although I have the upmost respect for the man I don’t know how well he would have done killing big bucks in Texas or Florida.

To me the best deer hunters are the most adaptable, can break down a property and kill critters no matter the conditions.

I remember as a kid, reading that article. I held on to that issue of Sports Afield for years.

Each guy at camp is in charge of dinner on separate days I'm either doing a venison stew or some pork loins on my day. Another guy is doing venison meatball bombers and not sure what the other guys are cooking.

We do the same at my club/camp. I usually make beef short ribs one night. For my second night I make breaded chicken cutlets with peas and rice , and a gravy of one can cream of chicken and two cans of cream of mushroom combined. Others make veal cutlet parm, stew, Sauerbraten, Roast beef, BBQ venison, baked 1/2 chickens.....Plus there's always a big Crappie fish fry Friday before opener.

    We sure don't starve.

35 rem is one of my favorite cartridges. Hits deer hard kicks soft and comes in some awesome classic guns. I have 2 336 pre safety marlin 35’s and a Remington 760 pump a 141 pump a 14 pump and a savage 170 pump all in 35 rem. I’ve never been a fan of marlin lever think they’re too Heavy and long for what they are, but they do balance well and carry nice. With the mag tube it’s a little harder to trim the barrel to a proper length because you have to do the mag tube as well and unless you go to a synthetic stock that throws the balance off.

It’s hard for me to recommend a 35rem to someone that doesn’t reload because the ammo can be hard to find and when you do find it it’s twice the price of 30-30. For someone that reloads it’s an awesome cartridge that’s extremely versatile.

444 is one that never intrigued me, owned one for a while but never warmed up to it. The Hornady interlocks were a good bullet but last I knew they discontinued them in the 265 so I wouldn’t know where to start these days because most .429 bullets are made to travel much slower then the 444 sends them so weight retention is a big issue.

This 1953 Remington 760 is the only rifle I’m carrying this year. I cut the barrel to 16” and added a peep. Other than that she’s all original and wears the scars well.

BM7600, I really like that gun. I've been looking for an early '60's example with diamond checkering in 35 Rem to cut back to 18". Curious about the performance with the 16" barrel.
