IF You could get every trapper to check their line every 15  minutes they still would be coming to take this away.

    Of course.... It's About "Feelings"....

  2. Again.... they try to create Laws so people do not have to have Personal Responsibility!!!!   What a Joke... It's a Trappers job to check traps on a regular basis... But Liberal Dem Government takes that out of your hands....

So, hypothetical question. I've been thinking about, if I had to choose someone to get behind for a Republican President, with myself being a registered Democrat, which current political figure would it be? This also got me thinking about which Democrat would Republican's be okay with. Now, I don't mean that you would be putting up yard signs for them, or even voting for them, but which current member of the "other" party would you be okay with?

For me, I would would say Phil Scott, Republican Governor of Vermont. I don't agree with all of his positions, but he seems to come at everything with an open mind and a logical decision making process. I know that Vermont is a small state, but he has done a good job of working across the aisle. Now, I'm not an expert, and there are a lot of things I may be missing in this, but from what I have heard, I would be okay with him or a leader like him.

Who would it be for you? I don't mean for this to turn into a "I could never support a Democrat/Republican" or "I just hate (insert name here)". I'm really just curious about what ties we all might have across party lines. Lord knows we all do enough bickering and complaining, it would be nice to think about what we might have in common.

There aren't many moderate Dems out there anymore.......

I have been doing some research on muzzleloaders and after reading reviews online and going to stores and looking at a few I have really liked the CVA Optima. Before I go ahead and purchase one I had a few questions.
    - has anyone had issues with the firing pin with the Optima? I read online a few people had some problems.
    - will I need a different breach plug for BH209?

    - what bullets/loads do you guys recommend with the CVA Optima?

    -Nitride barrel vs stainless steel?

    Thanks!

I have the CVA Optima.... I love it!  Stainless.... Love that you can screw off the plug by hand.... Never had any issues with it!

I nuisance trapped a couple nice beavers yesterday!  In the perfect world, I try to time my nuisance work with the open trapping season so I don’t have to dispose of the critter…I always like to use as much of the animals I harvest as possible.  Thought I would share, along with photos, six things that I typically do with the beavers I catch.

    1.     Skin out and sell or tan the pelt.

    2.      Remove the backstrap and hind leg meat to eat.  If you have never tried beaver meat, I highly recommend you give it a try!  I rate beaver as some of the finest meats I have eaten.

    3.      I keep the skulls and either clean them up myself or give to my beetle guy…they typically get donated to schools, Scout groups, nature centers, etc.…I have a bunch that I use a props when they fit into various presentation I give.  Sometimes I’ll remove the teeth and use as decorations/trimmings on bags, etc. that I make or use for medallions or trade at the primitive rendezvous.  Fun fact, beavers have “metal teeth”.  Instead of magnesium in their enamel like other rodents, they have iron…this increases the strength of their teeth and makes them more resistant to acid.  They are also orange because of the iron…just like our blood is red (because of the iron).  Beavers teeth also grow continuously.

    4.      I skin the tail out and use the leather for bow grip wraps on the bows I make…or tan to make stuff.  Last year I tanned a small beaver with the tail (and claws) still attached…it worked out great and I plan to do that again.  Some people extract the oils from the tail and use for lure making.

    5.      I remove the castoreum, dry and either sell or use to make lures.  Beaver castoreum is used in both food and perfume industries…look it up, very interesting!

    6.      I then chunk up the rest of the carcass and use for bait!

So there you have it…lots to do with a beaver!  I challenge you to get the most out of your harvests, whether it is a bird, deer, or other critter!  It is not only a cool learning process and respectful to the animal, but also very rewarding knowing that you maximized your harvest.

    Take care,

    Dino

To many damn bleeding hearts in NY. My feelings are that every law abiding citizen should carry at all times and there would be near no gun related violent crime in our state, save for the gangs. Think of this, If you were a bad guy looking to hold up a bar, store, whatever...would you still want to do it knowing every person in that place was going to be pointing their weapon at the back of your head once you brandish yours? Or, would you rather come to NY to commit such crime, where you are probably the only armed individual in the room?

Take my guns. Take my neighbor's guns. Take all guns that are not in the hands of the police....The bad guys still get them! Gun laws in this state are bass ackwards.

Gun control means hitting your target!!

Exactly!  It's SAD so many people have no Trust in their neighbors anymore.... I guess no one borrows a Cup of flour or a few Eggs either....

I Also think carry should be concealed for everyone... If I'm a bad guy... I go into the 7-11 and see a firearm on the clerks hip... I don't rob that one... I rob the one where the guy has none!  If Concealed carry .... You don't know who has a gun or not!

  7. The problem is.... Many neighbors when they hear one of us carry.... they Freak out... and are scared that a neighbor has a gun on him while in his yard, etc. They don't believe people should be armed... only police. That's how that newspaper published who in Rockland County had carry permits....

So last night after work I needed to trim my fingernails. That happens in the basement as they tend to fly like mini boomerangs....

Ive had a couple hit me in the face but no damage was done. Last night my luck ran out, uggh.  One little nail clipping came zinging right into my left eye! Holy crap, I jump up and run up to the bathroom and look into the mirror. I couldn’t see anything but it itched and watered bad.  I thought maybe it flushed out during the run upstairs??

A couple times during the evening and today during the day it started to itch and water again but would soon go away. I thought maybe it was just a small scratch on my cornea or something at that point, how could a hunk of nail not be incredibly painful??

Well twenty minutes ago it started to itch again, then my vision got blurry. I jumped out of my easy chair and ran to the bathroom mirror. There it was, setting on my lower eye lid!  Thank goodness that flushed out on its own.....

    27 hours later!!
