ive seen them in trees at 11am. Went into the edge of a field and there was a coyote.
I like it! Get a bunch of coyote decoys, find where they're roosting and put them all over, sleep till 10Am!

This working every other day thing has got me so screwed up, I never know what day it is, it always feels like Friday or Saturday. Which is wonderful.

So how late is too late in everyone's opinion? I've hunted opening week and mid season, but never hunted "damn nearJune". Is the last few days too late, or should I try to shuffle some dates around and get back out sooner?

Looks like I made the right call heading home. For the first time ever, I left 90% my cold weather clothes at home thinking it was going to be hot/sweaty/buggy, not cool and windy like last week. I definitely didn't have the gear for snow.

I've been shot over twice. Both times being down hill of someone shooting at a bird. One a bird we both seemed to be working.
The second time was two birds for fighting for a bit just p hill from me. I could only see glimpses, lots of flapping and spurring going on. The fight ended and one came towards me. The loser of the fight I guess went the other way and ran into another hunter.
Both times the shot was well over my head in the trees, but quite startling and not fun.

As a side note, I shot myself in the face with a shotgun once.
Not fun. There was an ongoing debate about shooting bowling pins with bird shot, and was it safe or not. I had a shotgun match coming up and felt it was best not to trust either side of an internet debate. So I tested the theory myself. I IMMEDIATELY learned it was a mistake. Face, neck, arms. Good thing for safety glasses. No penetrations, but some blood and a good bit of pain.

So this was late afternoon of the thursday before opening day. I thought it was going to be a good omen. Turned out wrong. She was feeding out in the yard for an hour and a half. I kept an eye on her that whole time. I had stuff to do outside but didn't want to scare her off, hoping she had a boyfriend somewhere near by. Push came to shove so I said the heck with it, I started to call her with the patented poult whistle.
She came in on a string from 60 yards. then paced back and forth for a while trying to locate me. What I was really trying to do was get her to come up on the steps, but no luck. My plan for next season is to bring that old painted white screen door with me in the woods, apparently it's amazing turkey camouflage.

I did six days. Not a sound. Adjacent to and in one state forrest for five days, in another state forrest on the sixth. Not a tree gobble in the dawn, a ready for some love gobble in the morning, or a gobble (shock or otherwise) in the evening. Daily silence. That's never happened before. Not even those far off "that's got to be on the other side of the valley" or 'miles away" gobbles. Nada.
(That just reminded me, they were the quietest sunsets I've ever experienced in the spring. Usually it's a chorus of fake owl calls a dusk. Not a one this year. Nor did I hear or see any other hunters, usually I'm good a for a couple. I saw sign of only one person, tire marks and foot prints. I expected to see MANY hunters this year.)
I saw some sign, not a lot. Lone bird scratchings, that's it. Crazy thing, despite all the quiet, I saw far more birds than I've seen in years. Everywhere I went I saw them. In fields, in the woods, in yards, literally walking down the shoulder of the road. But I'll be danged if I heard a peep from a male.

Top two... Left is a Webley Mk IV in .38 S&W. Right, a Webley Mk VI in .455 (made in 1917)
Below that, a Remington Model 8 in .32 Remington, made in 1928
At the bottom, two custom Ruger Bisleys. The top one build by Alan Harton (Single Action Service) , a 5 shot .45 Colt. (45 shot hand loads equal low to mid 454 Casull velocities)
Below, a Dave Clements (Clements Custom Gun) 5 shot 500 Linebaugh.
(the "no longer owns" , A Springfield M6 in 22 Hornet over 410. A S&W M24 44 Special, and a Remington military rolling block that was "sporterized" into a target/ silhouette gun with A Parson's scope, chambered in .40-65)

Okay... I've long been curious what my "turkey" guns weigh, but you know, not curious enough to bother to weigh them. But they all happen to be out of the safe, and it's raining (surprise), so why not.
The surprise to me is the NEF, I thought it would weigh more. It is lighter than factory stock, slightly. They come with a big bar of steel in the stock for weight/balance. Years ago I had bought a mercury stock insert for a rifle my father had. He sold the rifle and it never got used, so I swapped it and a spacer for the bar of steel.

SBE 2 28" barrel
SBE 1 19" barrel (w/ ext mag tube)
Though it weighs 2 lbs more, the NEF might be the easiest to carry because of how small the receiver is, easy to grasp. (I don't sling)

The trigger on mine is pretty decent. I don't think dad had anything done to it.
I shot it last fall for the first time in probably 40 years. (maybe more)
I took it "squirrel hunting" (really just a long walk with a rifle) last fall and it was a joy to carry. Light, slim and trim, make my CZ .17M2 feel like a log.

Early season is more enjoyable, turkeys or not.
Late season is the hell of a million flies. By 7AM I'm wanting to go hide inside.

I'm not hung up on weight.
I deer hunt with a sub 6lb rifle... and many others that range in weight up to about 13-14 lbs.
And always carry a handgun. I also carry 8-10 lbs of crap in a pack with me everywhere I go. And probably 30-60 lbs extra on me. lol

It's okay, you could only spread the virus or get the virus after 8PM on Friday.
I believe the photo was taken on Thursday. It doesn't matter, he's been telling people to wear masks in public long before he made it "mandatory." He's too important and too busy vote pandering to maintain "social distancing". "Do as I say, not as I do."
