<p>Leto Island, a popular Oswego River fishing spot during the fall salmon run on the river’s eastern side, is again closed this year.</p>

<p>“The sole bridge to the island remains closed (by order of the state Department of Transportation), and walkers are not allowed to cross it,” said David Lemon, regional fisheries manager at the DEC’s Cortland office.</p>

<p>Lemon said some anglers last year managed to get access to the island by walking across the top of the gates of the lock at the island, but he added that the state Canal Corporation has banned that this year because of safety concerns.</p>

<p>Lemon said the DEC and DOT are continuing to discuss the matter of allowing anglers to cross the bridge.</p>

<p>“We want to see Leto Island opened to fish. So far, we haven’t gotten there,” he said.<br /></p>
