Stripers still here

I took the 'yak up t the North Sore of L.I. to see if the Blues left , and if Bass were in. There's a saying here that

at after the first snow the bass leave..

It was a little cold and breezy, but tolerable ( Cold never used to bother me, now I hate it). I headed up towards the east side fighting wind and tide and of course I see birds working the west side.

I figured that I would give it a shot even though it was a good mile away against wind and tide.

I finally got there and the birds were starting to leave, but saw some splashes...I casted, got a hit, dropped it , got hit again and landed a 30 inch , 11 lb. striper.. I only wound up with a little over a dozen, but all the rest were small schoolies. Now I got some hope that some bigger bass will come in ( I guess the Blues left that area)

I kept the bigger one to eat ( 28 inch minimum). After I fileted it, I cut open the belly to see what it was eating.. It had 4 Mantis Shrimp inside it..

I caught all the Bass on a 4" white soft plastic shad with 1/2,oz , and also 3/4 oz. white lead heads. They hit a 007 tin,but didn't land any with that so the shad were better for me today.

I cooked a piece of the Bass piece when I got home.. Really good !!

So I guess snow don't make the bass go...

I almost never saltwater fish on weekends, but I went too long without fishing so I'm 'yakin tomorrow in hopes of a bigger bass,

As an aside, on the South Shore, Jones Beach is open . BUT ONLY the Western parking fields.. My wife went today to Field 2 and saw surf fishermen,,, The bathrooms were Not open, there are portapoties.....I think West End 2 is open also..
