jersey guy
Anyone ever grow this wondering how it would grow up north and when to plant it Edited April 5, 2015 by jersey guy
growalot
It grew great ,BUT,deer wiped it out...you need to plant a big field or fence it off...planted it with climbing beans...deer hit it harder than the soybeans I plant...That said..Will be planting again with grain sorghum, sunflowers and a red clover over the top. growalot
Planting depends on what your looking to achieve...are you looking for a summer feed plot,screening/food,or a early fall plot...if you do get it to survive the deer it gets tall and woody..they eat the leafs..it will be difficulty cut and incorporate without good equipment...a summer feed plot cut and disced in will really improve your soil and make a great fall/winter food plot with little need of nitrogen. I broadcast after a light/shallow straight line discing...then run a drag in the opposite direction on after spreading the seed and 10-20-20 Edited April 5, 2015 by growalot
jersey guy
looking to use for screening I share a six acre field with a neighbor would leave in to next spring then brush cut and till in would that work ? Sorry for all. The questions I'm a city boy that loves to hunt n fish no farming experience
growalot
Then I would mix in some feild corn and or sunflowers...this could help if the deer thin it and help with possible lodging in high winds....you could plant as late as late June.
