I never felt the Vortex I put on Dad's old 7400 30-06 was the right glass for that gun.  I always would have rather had that one on a Browning A-Bolt with the BDC and all.  So I took advantage of a great deal from Cabels on a Leupold VX1 3-9 regular duplex.  My plan tonight was when I got home from work to move the glass around.  Well I'm happy I did because when I started to undue the front scope ring on the 7400 the base plate of the ring fell apart.  A Weaver Grand Slam ring!  It must have had a hairline crack in it and literally the only thing holding it together was the compression of the screws above it.  I had an extra set of Leopold Rifleman rings that fit so I used those when I mounted and bore sighted the Leupold.  That was a strange way to find that out.  My guess it would have just fallen apart at the range anyway.  But you never know.
