Cool gear just need help finding a spot

I just picked up a comfort zone climbing tree stand from a friend and went and got a muddy harness because I hear they are great. Now I need to find a decent spot. I have been hunting for a year now and doing it all alone. I hunted on the ground since I started hunting and yesterday I decided to get a stand. The spots I hunt are spot 7a over in middle island and mott ln in Brookhaven but have not even seen anything moving. Is there something I need to know. Is there a time that is best. Any info would help. I duck hunt also and have a few awesome spots if you help me I can take you out on a great duck hunt.
