Actually I did have a choice. I could have been a real jerk and made a big scene out of it and ended up with the tail light ticket and thrown to the ground a few times. What I did was just the best choice IMHO. 

You had a choice with your actions but not a choice on what happened to you. You also had a choice to get all bloodied up and lose your pistol permit but you were bright enough to do just what the young officer told ya to do.  That was a smart move.
