growalot
Mr B got the disc on for me yesterday. I was finishing up the tree and he was getting the disc when the sky opened up...man and did it RAIN...got a bit chilly too...Thanks to the knee I still have lots of rocks to remove ,but the area for the front corn is clear...I'll get that disced and go pic up some urea, maybe some sun flowers and get that in...I have to get rest of rocks out of my bean plot next to the corn......I hate being behind...neighbors baby should be awake by now.... growalot
I decided to do the front part of upper plot first...I did a criss cross discing to chop up some weeds that grew back from the weed kill...to check disc level...good...then went in and hand weeded 4 rows of my swt. corn the strawberry patch(pain with the fence around it) the spinach, swiss chard, and beets.Cuke seeds are up so I'll have a succession of beets...still so much more to go in...weeds are bad...In to rest knees and eat then down to the lower plot... growalot
OK a fraction of the corn plot is all disced up...I shoveled 4 more piles of rocks and I'm dog tired...starting supper....I had a bunch of new growth come in where I want the bean/lab lab mix...a grass and Johnny Jump Ups everywhere......I really do not want to spray and wait....think I'll just mow real close and disc it all up...It can't get sprayed after planting, so I was expecting some weed growth any ways. Just hoped it would grow well before weeds took off...Where in the world did a carpet of Johnny Jump Ups come from!? I still have so many more rocks to get out of there... growalot
I'm at it again...going down to disc the lane way and the old clover plot....I am still trying to decide what to do with the bean/hemp field there..weeds and especially grasses took over and the deer took out every thing so low that even the sorghum can't compete with the weeds with this rain... Tell me do you thing if I mow and then disc without killing now and then disc one more time at the end of Aug I can pound it with rye and stem some of this weed problem? at the least I'll be adding to the soil with green manure. mow in the spring ...disc and then put in a RR soybean?? growalot
So all that discing was done...then I wanted to drop ..what ended up being a few dozen trees along the woods edge before planting. Always a day or 3 behind schedule. I will have to plant this week end or beginning of next week. This hot muggy weather is a killer when dropping trees ,limbing, and hauling tops...I give you loggers a lot of credit for a tough job... Taking a break from that, still have a few to move...Today is supply day and getting Rivers B-day present..It's his first
growalot
I was back at it at 9am this morning...just got back here....Mr B was getting the Suzuki out to come down and check on me when I puled in with the Gator..."You know what time it is,I was getting worried"...lol I asked him if he worried about me all day at work...for I'm working like this then too!...He mumble .."Well you should be eating lunch!" I got all the rest of trees cut down and up then hauled the brush to the fence I am making....I now have a fantastic view on what will be the turnip/chicory plus plot and the shooting lane that parallels that plot is opened all the way to the end...I'm taking a quick break then going down to lay up some lime.. If we do not get rain then I will have that lane way and the old clover plot done in the morning...fertilized and dragged then seeded...the old clover needs lime then I'll plant the new turnips there...It's where I have the fruit trees planted. After that tonight is freezing beets and green beans...OMG first picking and they were awesome last night. Cukes need to be put up as well.... I checked my water and musk melons..water melons are the size of soft balls and muskmelons are just starting to develop...Peppers are producing and doing great and just waiting for those tomato to ripen...but I will be over whelmed by then...lots of canning to do and I make tomato juice and sauce ...I will barrow our daughters pressure caner this year to make zucchini stew and can the first doe I shoot...I want to can the entire deer...so not looking for a huge one
