Tughill Tamer
Finally got a chance to dust of the bow yesterday evening. my first few arrows were a little off I think due to my form being a little rusty ( haven't shot since last year) but about 6 arrows in I was shooting pretty well for me.I only shot at 20 yrds yesterday figuring I would start out close for the first few sessions getting my form back then eventually move out to 40 yards which is about as far as I feel comfortable at. I plan to shoot at least twice a week from here till bow season.I am shooting a Mission Venture with a 60# to 70# pull set at 64 pounds with a 28" draw.Last year was my first season hunting with a bow in a long time I used to bow hunt years ago but got out of it till last year when my son's interest in it resparked my interest and we both bow hunted last year niether of us having any luck getting a deer in bow range then again last year was a bad year overall with my son and I only getting 2 dear combined during rifle season.Since I am relatively new to bow hunting I am open to any suggestions or advice. We both can't wait to get are first shot at a deer, friends we hunt with say you will remember your first bow harvest way more than any you've gotten with a rifle. When do you all start practicing for the season? Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
stoneam2006
I am not new to bow hunting but am new to bow hunting being my favorite season. I just bought a new bow so will shoot a few times a week till season as weather breaks I will shoot in all gear as I can. The very best thing that has helped me and my confidence is going out and shooting 1 arrow everyday weather I plan to shoot more or not. Just go out in the morning or right before dark and shoot 1 shot concentrate on form and aim. Realisticly that's all we get in the woods so that first shot is what matters. Now I also am trying to get my heart rate up while doing shooting this 1 shot just another factor when that deer walks in. I do like the thought of concentrationing hard on your first arrow as that likely will be the one that countsSent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
growalot
The heart rate thing can't be understated...I hunt from elevated positions most of the time...so in order to get the heart pumping I take 3 arrows...and a small 3D to a ladder stand...I estimate how far out the 3D is and shoot the 3 arrows until they are exactly where I want them. BTW I shoot instinctive,no sights,...then climb down and retrieve .... I start at very close and sharp angled out to 40 yrds...Not always do I get the best in 3 shots first try. So as you can imagine this old heart is a pumping be the time I am done...Wear your harness!! I use a quick release and it's no big deal strapping in. The stand I pick has me able to shoot up hill and down hill from the stand.
