    XOP stands and sticks?

    I have the XOP stand and sticks. If if I’m being honest...it isn’t Lone Wolf (I have a Sit n Climb Wide)....that said, the sticks (I have the ones with three steps) are easy to use, and the stand is totally fine. The little block thing that allegedly can be mounted to the stand to hold the sticks on the stand didn’t work for me no matter how I tried to mount it. That said, I’m not remorseful of the purchase. I think with practice it could be a great tool. I won’t use it often, but I will use it. I bought the similar Hawk setup with two steps too...

    Homemade venison sausage

    Figured this is as good a spot as any, but apologies in advance if it’s a hijack. I am planning to make my first sausage ever and have purchased Backwoods (LEM) breakfast blend seasoning. For that I’m not planning on using casings, just ground. For this, I was planning about 80-20 venison to pork fat. Also was thinking I’d run some already ground in with the pork and grind it through a medium plate. Does that sound like a good plan?

    I also bought a summer sausage seasoning pack and some fibrous cases. I have meat that has not been ground yet and wanted advice on what to mix in with it. Was thinking pork and pork fat originally, but also wanted opinions on beef or a mix of pork and beef with the venison.

    I do not have a stuffer, just a grinder with a three plates and a tube. I also have a jerky shooter thing.

    Any input is appreciated.

    I love the .243 but does anyone make in semi ?

    I have a couple of the newer Browning BAR Shorttrac rifles in .308. I have always liked the idea of one in .243 as well. My .308’s are every bit as accurate as the Browning bolt guns I have in the same caliber. I can’t speak to other models or brands (besides the AR designs that also are very accurate) but I really like mine for hunting.

    Neoprene seat covers

    I like the idea of form fitting seat covers to protect my truck seats and to make easier to clean. Neoprene seems to be a popular option. Do any of you have them? Are they hot in the summer? How have they held up? Do they look cheap? Thanks!

    Lease property

    Just my opinion, but I’d spend money making habitat improvements on my own land before I paid for a lease if I had to choose one. If you can or are doing that already, then yeah more spots is great.

    I will tell you I’ve done the live in a subdivision, go to the lease every weekend 100 miles away, the live in a subdivision and have my own hunting property, and now the house and the hunting property all in one. I don’t have a dog, but I can tell you I have a happier wife and kids since I’m “home” more now. Keep sanctuary areas on your property and you’ll be happy you can hunt out your back door. It is an amazing thing not having to get in your truck and drive to your hunting spot.

    How about draping a towel or something loosely over the breech (obviously being sure the hammer is free)? I bet you could muffle it to almost inaudible. Tuck under coat or hand muff thing or something...

    Yup, this is what i was talking about. Ive had many people tell me their dealer said its completely normal for them to do that which to me is complete BS. Ive also heard that fords "fix" was them putting a longer dipstick in so it will show more oil being in the pan, but I'm not sure if thats true or not.

    Not to derail, but they do put a longer 2 qt range dipstick in as part of one service bulletin. The threshold is still 1qt in 3k miles. I have to run premium fuel in my or it detonated as well. 12:1 compression...

    Mine is getting new cylinder heads or a short block once they put a dye in the oil to see where it’s being consumed.

    I’m a F-150 guy all the way, I suggest sticking with the 5.0. 

    Unless it’s a 2018...they are known for oil consumption issues. First time Ford truck owner here (bought it because of the aluminum body hopefully not rusting) and I hate how the 10speed tranny shifts and the oil consumption issue. Hoping it gets rectified under warranty soon.

    I wear LL Bean wool as well. Wish they still made the camp pants without the wind stopper. I had a pair that wore through. They replaced them no questions asked. I wear the Jac shirt and have the parka. That parka is heavy, but warm.

    I’ve always just used whatever powder solvent I’ve got around for BH209. Usually I have some Hoppes on hand. Seems to work well. I pretty much treat the barrel the way I do my centerfire rifles now. When I used to use Triple 7 pellets that was not the case.

    I too use Harvester sabots, and I shoot a Hornady FTX .452 250grain.

    Quad or tractor

    There opening a john deere dealer in fulton county,so i'm going to wait until spring. I'll just keep saving until then. I'm still on the fence about the cab it's heat only,but i'm sure that would be nice for snow removal.

    I see lots of almost new sub compacts with cabs for sale around the minute the weather warms up each year. I can tell you with confidence that you do not want a cab tractor that does not have air conditioning. The heat is awesome in winter, but they are incredibly hot inside that glass globe in anything above early spring or late fall temperatures. If you want a cab, AC is absolutely required.

    That said, I have a cab tractor and it is really nice having comfort and protection in the cab. I’ll never go back to open station on my main tractor. There aren’t any sub compacts that I’m aware of that you can get AC from the factory.

    they have a lot of loyal customers that sell and trade in stuff. it's like a flee market sometimes. never know what you'll find versus bigger stores that move a large qty of each item.

    I used to haunt them very frequently. Been meaning to get back for some time. Dave and his guys are great. Dave has always been fair to me, even when I was a young whippersnapper.

    Another Single Shot

    Sweet rifle!

    I had one on a G2 Contender in rifle format and in pistol format. The rifle kicked hard, I think I had a 21” barrel, but the aftermarket walnut stock and thick recoil pad I had on it made it ok. The pistol was a lot of fun! You didn’t want to shoot it too many times though!

    The .45/70 is so versatile being able to be loaded from modest to quite crazy.

    Those TC’s are addicting!

    Anyone use a 6.8spc for deer?

    Hey Chris, please give an update on your scope when you finally get to shoot your gun. That scope is on my short list, along with 2 others that have CDS but are slightly higher power. I’d rather get the one you have and get it converted to CDS, but their custom shop is in limbo at the time and they can’t give an answer on when or if they can customize that scope at this time. 

    I’ve been using 2.5-8X36 vari-x III’s, VXIII’s, VX3’s, and VX3i’s for a long time and they’ve all been great. I’ve only recently started using VX5hd’s when I’m not being as careful on weight. The VX3 line is awesome, rock solid, and lightweight.

    Deer Hauler

    The auto start thing drove me crazy in my 2018 f150. You can get a small wiring “harness” that plugs in behind the switch on the dash. Super simple to install and “remembers” if the button is on or off so you don’t have to touch it each time you start it up.     Absolutely totally worth it in my mind and is the only “real” fix with no drawbacks.
