  1. My wife’s terrain has the heated steering wheel and it’s a really nice feature but I don’t think it would be Mandatory my next vehicle. I use it then it gets to hot and I turn it off.

I have heated seats in my truck and am conflicted about those as well. While super nice to have I end up shutting them off after a bit because they are too hot BUT when I was shopping for a 250 I kept wanting heated seats so I don’t know.

Now get me cooled seats and I’m in for those for sure!

This is exactly how I feel. Especially with leather. I’d trade heated seats for ventilated any day.

  2. In Maine (Kittery Trading Post and Cabelas) you can buy a firearm without a hassle on the spot, fyi. You might check them out.

As long as you have some form of ID with your FULL name on it. I drove 4.5 hours and went home empty handed because of a middle initial. My pistol permit now has my full name on it.

For the OP, call the store and ask.

  3. I have a Savage bolt .243 synthetic stock ..
I shoot left hand and I like the handling of the auto …
Wonder if the synthetic bar is around the same weight as the savage

Not sure if they make MK3 BAR in left hand, but I recall seeing the BAR Shorttrac in leftie. I love my Shorttracs and am always open to getting more if a good deal comes about.

  4. H110 and W296 are reportedly the same powder. Remember, this is the internet, so please consult a reloading manual. The GP100 is one of my favorites. For plinking up to moderate loads, I like Unique under a 158 semi wad cutter that you can buy in bulk for cheap. Well, they were cheap. Try Oregon Trail or others. For the hotter stuff, I’ve always been a fan H110. I’ve not tried 2400, but it is a popular choice.

  5. Chief River Nursery has provided me with some excellent trees, and Kelly Tree Farms swamp-burr oak hybrids have done exceptionally well on my property just West of Rochester. Both are mail order. Meadowview Nursery in Naples is fantastic, with the bonus of being close enough that you can see what you're buying if you're from WNY (I'd like to say I know where Dicksville is, but those days have long passed me by).
Protect, protect, protect! Otherwise, you're just feeding trees to the wildlife. 18" of aluminum screen stapled from below the dirt up the trunk will stop mice and rabbits from girdling. Cages at least 4' high - tree tubes are like candy for wasps and mice, and the trees grow spindly inside of them, often rubbing the edges when they emerge. I wish I'd never heard of tubes. 3' circle of ground cloth covered with stone to prevent weeds. It sounds like a lot of work, but take it from someone who's planted >5,000 stems in the past five years. Plant less, protect more. You can't overwhelm the deer with numbers. They will get everything.

I ordered from Chief River for the first time last year. I was happy with the prices and the trees. They did come a bit late compared to what I hoped, and I ended up having to put a few in pots. Only a few in the pots did ok.

I have had pretty good luck with tubes, but understand that is not always typical. I certainly have not planted that many trees with them either. Maybe 50-60. All Chinese Chrstnut and a just a few apple.

  6. I think we are just like bucks. Lots of bachelor groups around of 1.5 and occasional 2.5 year olds. As bucks get older, they tolerate less company from the same gender in most cases.

Of course I’m being facetious, I think, but I can say my friendship circle has gotten much smaller for lots of reasons. One of those may be because half of those guys I used to hang around with drive me nuts now.

I was a lead singer and guitarist in a band for a while. You think starting at 10 sucks, try being in the band and feeling the abuse on both ends. Am I write @splitear?

Anyway, I definitely do miss my friends sometimes. The thing is, my family and professional life have taken priority…on purpose.

Oh and hunting alone has had its perks for me at times, although I sometimes miss the camaraderie.

  7. I’m definitely with you on preferring the tube load! So much easier to load and unload! So much so that I carry my Henry over my 16” 1972 Winchester 94 in 44mag although it’s almost 2lbs heavier.

I carried a 16” 44 mag Henry most of this year and really enjoyed it. I wish they would make them a couple pounds lighter but other than that I really liked toting it! Why don’t you like the big loop? I think they look stupid and slow you down a bit while racking but that’s offset by how fast I can get my hand in the loop while bringing the gun to my shoulder.

You answered it for me…they look stupid lol. I have never understood why most lever guns are so heavy. In my opinion there is no reason for them to be over 6lbs. I want it short and as light as possible. I find myself carrying my BLR in .358 with 20” barrel or a BAR Shorttrac with 18” barrel the most nowadays.

  8. MCARBO and Timney both offer springs for A Bolts. Long before that, I had several triggers done by a local gunsmith. The MCARBO springs are too light for my liking in a hunting rifle and I really like a light trigger. When I shot 4 position small bore I shot a 4-5oz trigger. Anything under about 2.5lbs in a deer rifle is too light for most, especially in a single stage.

  9. This was talked about in detail a few weeks back on the Big Woods Bucks Podcast. The guy from Skinner Sights got to demo one and was talking about it. I just picked up a Henry .45-70 to scratch that itch and I gotta say I’m a fan of the tube load. I don’t love side gates. I realize I’m likely in the minority with that. I wish they’d (anyone in America) would make a straight grip, 16” .44 mag with a normal size lever, and preferably a tube load option. Looks like I’ll have to customize a Henry to get that.

I hope the Ruger Marlins are good and sell like hotcakes.

  10. Want to try out 500 grains but it seems like a long drawn out process

It’s all relative. Your draw length, draw weight, and bow efficiency play a huge role in finding the right balance for you.

It’s hard not to be at almost 500 grains if you shoot 70lbs at 29” or more.

In other setups, you’d need to add insert weight and/or broadhead weight (which often results in needing to spine up, which also increases weight in almost all instances) to get there.

  11. Haha I fell victim to this last summer. Went from shooting a Beman ICS Whiteout Hunter 340 with 100 grain Rage, at 432 grains total arrow weight to a Sirius Vulcan 250 with Grizzly Stik Samurai 200 grain broadheads for a total arrow weight of 652 grains. It’s been neat. Also went from a 2012 PSE Bow Madness 3G to a new Bowtech Solution. There was nothing wrong with my old setup, I just got the itch to mess with things.

For me, I won’t shoot anything over 35 yards or so, so I don’t notice anything in my trajectory that makes me regret the ridiculous arrows.

I was all jacked up to hunt with my new setup this year. In Northern Zone this year, it was only about 2 weeks and the weather was terrible so I felt a bit discouraged. Certainly not excited enough about the new setup to leave the rifles home though!

Really need to find southern zone spot just to bow hunt.

The Ranch Fairy is obnoxious and often hysterical. His lines about “all your buddies down at the pro shop with their flat brim hats” and “your buddies with the Kuiu beanies” really cracked me up.

  12. I do my own. I use Mobil 1 in our vehicles and it costs somewhere around $45-55 for the oil and filter. I buy several of each when on sale. I’m a believer in using the same oil brand and type forever, and the price for Mobil 1 (or any full synthetic) oil change anyplace is really high.

  13. XOP is one as well…

Phade is right. It’s mildly interesting reading going down the rabbit hole of where they’re made, who owns what, etc.

For what it’s worth, I have both Hawk Helium stand and sticks as well as an XOP stand and 30” sticks. They’re both fine. I also have an older USA made Lone Wolf Wide Sit and Climb that I like, but it has always had a couple creeks and groans that I’ve chased.
