  1. Great, can't wait to go out tomorrow morning. Does anyone know if you can target shoot in the Pittstown state Forest? Just realized this is quite close and but was sure if it was posted anywhere for NO TARGET SHOOTING??
  2. Read this. I did and it's hilarious. REDNECK HOME SECURITY SYSTEM 1. Go to a secondhand store and buy a pair of men’s used size 14-16 work boots. 2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine. 3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines. 4. Leave a note on your door that reads: Bert, The guys and I gots bored so we went for more ammo and beer. Be back in an about an hour. Don’t mess with those dogs; they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up somethin bad. I don’t think Tiny took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of ‘em in the house. Best wait outside. Be right back.
  3. Ok great. When I realized what I had done I was a bit concerned.
  4. ok good to know. --- Is what I did this one time ok?
  5. So as long as there is no posting that you cannot do target shooting, and you are only shooting at paper targets, you are good to go on state land then?
  6. Ok, so clean the action spring and tube good. When I clean it yesterday I did not do this. One other question. When I clean it yesterday I used the bore brush but am afraid I did it wrong or backwards, inserting it into the end of barrel, going in and then out. Is this something that is going to mess it up? Not going to do it again. Hope I didn't mess anything up.
  7. Anyone know where to find .308 ammo in 168 grains? I shot about 35 rounds through my new Remington 750 Carbine yesterday for the first time. No scope on it yet, just the irons it came with. Shoots very nice. Still can't wait to get a scope on it though. Anyway back to topic....the ammo. Cannot seem to find this 168 grain ammo as easily anywhere online and even Walmart didn't have it! The reason I am looking for this is becausee everything I shot was 150. It jammed up a few times on me but I just kept going. It always ejected the empties but would jam on the reload as it brought the next round out of the magazine. I know this is something that can be just from not having many rounds through but after I did some reading I would think this might be from the 150 not give enough pressure to move this fast enough with the action. Does this sound right? 180 would just be too much and is not needed for what I will used this gun for. Any advice on where to find this ammo and if I am on the right track going with the higher grain?
  8. Anyone know of any hunter safety courses for someone who lives in Albany county? There was nothing listed firectly for that county on the DEC site that I saw.
  9. Great info. So a larger objective will let in more light and up to 50mm should do the job it seems? Are there any reticles that anyone recommends? Are there any that glow a little like a trijicon sight would?
  10. Ok, so no looking under the scope, use one or the other got it That is what I had figured but thought I would ask. My main reason asking about using the irons was for low light conditions...I want to be sure that I can see the reticle, and my target good in lower light settings. Any advice here?
  11. Just picked up a Remington 750 Carbine (18 .5" barrel) in .308 and can't wait to shoot it! Has iron sights and is ready to go but I am going to want a scope on it. Any one have this rifle and/or can make any recommendations as to a good scope? Will I stil be able to use my iron sights at all with scope?
  12. Anyone know any public rifle ranges near Albany or perhaps belong to any such as the West Albany Rod & Gun Club?
  13. Sorry I missed this! Is this an annual event and where abouts in NY is it located? How many participants are there usually?
  14. Looks like I am all good. Howa Axiom Overall Length: 38 1/2" (buttstock collapsed), 42 1/2" (buttstock extended) Weight: 10 lbs., 2 ozs. (rifle only); 11 lbs, 7 ozs. (with Nikko-Stirling scope installed)
  15. absolutely. Hopefully will be a 20" but they seem a little harder to find. Overall it seems a littlel harder to find the gun itself. Everything I have read about it seems very good. Perhaps it will need a trigger job, but I am not worried about that now.
  16. Thanks. I did mean for hunting. That is what I was looking for.
  17. I am looking into getting a Howa Axiom .308 and want to know if the collapsible stock it has is legal. Been trying to find something in writing on the NYS DEC site but no luck. Does anyone know about this and where to find the information?
