  1. DNA is definitely something that is hard to discount. However, what made them think, "Hey, let's check this DNA against those ones out in South Dakota." I know there is no established population around here but they are other places. How did they know to cross check against lions from South Dakota?
  2. Wow. Looks great. You are never gonna go home! How much time did it take?
  3. Thank you very much everyone. This is a great site and I really appreciate the accurate info. Not ready to get any plots going yet, just starting to really think about it. Can't wait for the season to open up. Getting itchy already just looking at pictures. Was up at big hans this weekend sighting in my scope and its all ready. Thanks again.
  4. Good info. Basically what I have been told is that you cannot plant anything that doesnt grow there naturally like clover. Also that you cannot set yourself up in any sort of plot or right on the edge. If it is something like clover though does that matter? Any other insight and info is appreciated.
  5. Just trying to get some bearing on food plots and what NY allows. Have heard from some others that it all depends on how you hunt it etc. Are there any special rules or restricitons on this?
  6. Anything you can get out ot us to promote the site is gonna help things out. Is there going to be any sort of charge?
  7. Agreed Doc. Hunters should be the last people doing crap like that though.
  8. They should make it more serious than a fine if you are leaving crap lying around. Whether you are leaving your brass and shells or just littering in general, its still a crappy way to conduct ones self when in the woods. If you see someone leaving anything out there, you should immediately make them aware and enlighten them on the topic. When I first brought this topic up I wasn't even thinking about this aspect, just whether or not you could legally shoot on state land more out of a safety concetn. Picking up after yourself is just common sense and decency. I guess there are just too many people out here lacking in these departments.
  9. Have not tried them. What will you be using them for? Seems like an expensive bullet for in the field; $42 from what I see with a quick search on good old google.
  10. It was probably to my question....great info. Definitely alot more fun at the range.
  11. You can shoot on state land.... as long as there are no postings for No Target Shooting, and you are over 500 feet from any structure. If it is an area that you are not sure of, call and talk to the ranger for that area. That's what I did, just to confirm everything I had read and been told....still would be nice to have a range in the area I could go to whenever I want though rather than driving nearly three hours round trip. Here is how is is stated on the DEC website under their use of State Land Regulations; section 190.8_bb: --"No person shall possess breakable targets, including but not limited to clay pigeons, on State lands and no person shall target shoot at breakable targets, including but not limited to clay pigeons and glass containers, on State lands. Unless legally engaged in the act of hunting, no person shall discharge firearms on State lands posted or designated as closed to target shooting."
  12. Sounds like a nice setup and Nikon glass is great. Recently put a 3x9 Buckmaster on my Remington 750 carbine...can't wait to get it zeroed in. Trying to find somone who belongs to a range in the Albany area because most seem to need a sponsor to join. You have a very nice rifle there. Hope you get to shoot it alot.
  13. If you have that much money and think that the world is going to end you should be spending it on important things, like food and bullets.
  14. Just picked up one of these. Extremely clear and responds immediately. Chances of using to its Max power are unlikely but who knows. Figure it doesnt hurt to have the range.
  15. Has anyone ever used one of these? They have three different types and it really seems like a nice little set up for anything outdoors. Just trying to get some direct feedback. Here is a link to their site: http://www.epicstealthcam.com/epic_ac_prod_pg.html
  16. Definitely would. Haven't had a chance to get out this year though between work and having two kids under two. Glad they no longer make you get a special permit for the Hudson. Hopefully some stripers will be up by the dam in the next few weeks.
  17. For the record This all happened at 6:01pm EST on Saturday May 21,2011. Honestly, it really made me think. I would say the Rapture had to have some truth to it. You know when they say something big is happening concerning the planet, that animals will start acting weird? Well this is what I saw out my back window, it was like they were in some trance. got three of them before they scatterd. Pretty strange. Experts tell me they can explain why they would do this.....
  18. Have one myself, got it about a month ago. Probably have put about 85 rounds through it with no scope. Shoots great...no exact numbers on anything but really straight. Just picked up a Nikon Bushmaster 2-9 scope from Zacks in Round lake. Looks and feels great, havent zeroed it in yet, hopefully in the next few weeks.
  19. Looking for a clube in the Albany area to join. Was wondering if anyone belongs to Watervliet Fish and Game Protective Association, Inc. You need to have a current member as a sponsor and I am trying to see if anyone knows about this clube or already belongs to it.
  20. Went up to Lake Desolation State Forest last week and everything went well. called and talked to the ranger for the area first as well and he gave me the green light as well. As longs you are at least 500 feet from any houses, not shooting across any roads and just be sure to pick up all brass and only paper targets. leave no trace. I was almost a quarter mile in off road to be safe, shooting in the other direction.
