It could be just that it’s a drought year, and they moved off, because your property wasn’t providing enough water for them, but yeah, I guess you can’t discount the possibilities of EHD either. im in the same boat as you, I couldn’t believe how slow my cameras were, because I’ve had history in the areas , and know the normal amounts to expect. Unfortunately, I found EHD had hit
-
From your experience, is it more likely to come back, once it’s in an area? i just got an update from the DEC. So far they’ve tallied 450 likely EHD mortalities. also, added that the impact on the local herd is unknown and won’t know until after Hunting harvest data comes in.

2020 is the year of the virus.

Friend that works for the parks, has a few reports coming from fahnestock, bear mountain and Harriman.
-
It was good to meet you both, Bill and Cynthia. I’m sure we’ve crossed paths a few times. I reported the numbers to region 3 biologist, I’ve been e-mailing. Unfortunately, it’s just more confirmation , that it’s widespread and significant all around.
-
No it’s south east of goshen. Little south of Sarah wells rd.
-
I guess this gives me permission to continue with my (sky is falling narrative) by saying, the real numbers are ten times that, wait until they connect the dots... hey Cynthiafu, if you’re serious about checking out Stewart for dead deer, maybe we can meet up. It’s kind of fun, like The adult version of Easter egg hunting.

Funny how soaking a rack in a bucket of water, then having ants clean it up , is the best way for decomposition, but soaking in a swamp filled with insects, falls far short of the same effect... look at “higher Elevations” first post.. that deer came off an arid mountain side with shade trees. Theres nothing left but a bit of hide and grizzle. I been walking the woods my whole life. This is the first year I can remember finding Many deer, from complete skeletons to just died, on the regular basis. Nearly all are on the edges of, or in water Also, if you look at the Rack picture I posted, you’ll notice the reeds are still flattened. Hmmm that’s pretty interesting, since swamp grass regrows itself every year. I guess it just decided to flatten itself in the shape of a deer, around a deers skeleton..

Thank you sir..these fellas still believe in Russian collusion. And now, my fully formed rack that was discovered in a tidal marsh, died way back in June. I guess He had Some great genetics.. now we got another fella here , that Essentially created a mummified deer head in his back yard..wondering why it won’t rot.

Work on your reading comprehension skills. The first sentence, says “3 weeks in a temperate climate.” If a wet swamp, with no shade in the August, early sept We just had, isn’t temperate, I don’t know what is. i never said that deer died a week ago? One that died about 12 days ago, is basically a skeleton now, since I walked past It again today..
-
I don’t take offense from you. Since from your armchair, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I peeled the remaining strip of velvet off the rack.. go back to forensics school.
-
I love cut and pasting..Maybe this will help You. notice the picture of the pig, that is completely skeletonized in a dry field.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeletonization#Timeline
-
No, under velvet is stuff called “bone” when the soft velvet decays, the “bone” will be exposed . Racks are Near fully formed by early August. Have something Dead, lay in a swamp exposed, to moisture, sunlight and maggots, (not buried) you will have a pile of bones in 30 days. And now for a history lesson picture from the battle of pelileu... hmmm 3-4 months to make a skeleton? i guess According to Huntingny, all the Japanese soldiers were dead before the marines landed, since the marines couldn’t have possibly found skeletons in less than that time.
-
Why aren’t they devoured to the bone? Uhh.. maybe they just died within the last couple days? Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough? or do you want me to go back into the woods, my next day off, to take a picture of a near pile of bones, that was fresh intact body that I had previously posted... if you need further embarrassment lmk..
-
how long does it take in a tidal marsh that goes in and out every 12 hours in 80-90 degree heat??? my patience has about worn out with this forum.. I can easily Now see, how Hillary Clinton won this state in a landslide. Good luck NY in this upcoming season

Just got a text from a friend that works for the parks department. 3N 8 dead along 200yds of stream. “Could have found more” he will be giving coordinates to wildlife biologist tomorrow. ANY QUESTIONS?
-
Here’s a question. How long you all think it would take For this pile of ice fishing bait, to Strip a body down to the bones? If you think longer then a week you’re not “legitimate”
-
Are you a forensics professional? Obviously, you know nothing about how decay works. Things, like moisture, exposure to sun, wildlife.. etc have a huge effect on the rate of decay. actually, this whole experience has enlightened me greatly, in that respect. smh... guy drives up and down the taconic in his KIA and thinks he knows everything about the deer herd..

Wait a second, you’re calling me the troll? I came to this forum to inform fellow hunters that there’s a serious EHD out break in 2 wmu’s. Since you and others , considered the news “fake”. Since then I provided MANY pictures At the request of the forum members, to back up my claims. I ALSO mentioned I’ve been REPORTING my findings to the DEC. What have you done, But claim fellow hunters with FIRSTHAND experiences of the effects of this virus as alarmist? Hey jerk man, this Year, might your only chance to get your hands on a big rack. Just bring your battery operated reciprocating saw up to 3m and 3N.
-
I don’t know, thinking about not reporting them anymore. Don’t want to make it seem like a big deal. The DEC already confirmed a whole bunch (About 6) In Nelsonville and Goshen. Why count them? “no lasting impact”

Just stretched my legs on a random stretch of rd along Stewart state forest.. took about 6 minutes
