DEC may lose millions in federal funds
wdswtr replied to shu9265's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I would love to say I am suprised but guess Im not. I think we need a list of legislatures with contact info on here. Make it a sticky so we can revert to it whenever we need to be heard, which is all the time. Can his be done? -
Arrows, what are some good ones? Anyone buy new ones recently?
wdswtr replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I switched 2 seasons ago to Eastons full metal jackets. 11.6 grams per inch is a great choice for a hunters arrow. Since they are a carbon arrow wrapped in metal they are a thinner shaft as well. I love the darn things and I have had 4 people switch over to them that I know after seeing them. The reason I switched was after shooting many carbon arrows I was never happy with the penetration. After switching I to the heavier arrow I have had a big difference in the number of pass through shots than years past. A heavier grained arrow is a good thing in my opinion and I look at it this way. If you drove a volkswagon at 100 miles per hour into a wall and then went and drove a tractor trailer going 50 mph into the wall which one is going to do the most damage? -
I think you missed the meaning behind my post. This state does and will find every avenue it can by taking advantage of the people in this state who are dedicated to their hunting passion. They will find a way to get more money out of us wether you bought a lifetime license or not. Its is not misinformation it is predicting their next move and if you dont think that they will charge for everyone for tags in the near future then that is your opinion and right to think that. My opinion is I still see it as a a rather cheap investment to buy your license. It sort of amazes me how we complain about spending a 100 bucks or there abouts for a seasons hunting license but then we go out and spend thousands on new guns, bows, camo, scents, stands, blinds etc. etc.

Yeah its called a village tax. You pay tax on your property and you pay tax for the school district and next thing you know you will have to pay a village tax for village your property is located in. The 2% tax law is a good thing but like said they will recoupe their future losses somewhere else.

Im going to stick my neck out in this debate lol. Let me first say I am an avid bowhunter and the compound is my favorite time of the hunting season and prefer it over all the ML and Gun seasons. I am in no way going to say what anyone elses choice of weapon they should or shouldnt take afield with them. This debate hunters have over crossbows is mind boggling to me. One agenda in my mind should be clear and that is we all stick together to preserve our right to hunt. Truly how or why does it matter if the guy on the hill the next county over is using a crossbow or the guy hunting the same woods as you. It is that persons choice and he has the freedom to choose to do so if indeed they end up being a legal implement to the archery season. Everyone gets so darn upset to think someone is invading their woods or their deer. Unless your sitting on private land and you or the owners have made up your own bylaws as to what legal weapons are allowed on your little private piece of heaven than what right exacally do we have to tell someone else who is just as pationate about hunting whitetail that their weapon of choice is wrong and tear them apart for it? I also would like to throw this one out there just incase I left someone out and didnt tick them off by my statement lol. I am not a NYB member and never plan on being one. I dont agree with their selfish reasoning behind what they feel is best for every and all hunters in NY. They whine about the length of bowseason all the time and now that their is a proposal in the works to lengthen the season, guess what they are whining about that as well. I will paste and email I received from a NYB member and I am amazed at how these people will never be happy regardless. Now dont get me wrong some of their views I agree with but to claim that our bowhunting season will basically be 5 days and it will cease to exist as we know it is a little dramatic. Here it is for your viewing pleasure. NEW YORK BOWHUNTERs, Inc. CRITICAL RED ALERT The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released their 5-year “Management Plan for Whitetail Deer in NYS 2011-2015". This plan is a recipe for the dismantling of the archery-only hunting seasons as we know them today and it will have a dramatic effect on the quality of hunting during the firearm season as well. ALL sportspersons of this state need to spread the word via e-mail, twitter, face book, blogs, contacts with sporting groups, sports shops, legislators and any media at their disposal. YOU NEED TO ACT ASAP - MAKE IT GO VIRAL Proposed Tag/Permit Structure - FOR THE ENTIRE STATE * eliminate all antlerless & either sex tags, therefore no tags will be issued with bow or muzzleloading licenses, * antlerless deer can ONLY be taken with deer management permits (DMPs) in selected areas , * the ONLY deer carcass tag that you will receive will be ONE buck tag with your big game hunting license. Once a buck is harvested it’s your only one and you’re done. In areas with no DMPs, or a DMP is not secured via the lottery, hunters can only harvest one antlered (buck) deer. Therefore if a buck is taken during the early bow season, the regular season and muzzleloading licenses that were purchased are useless, * expand the antler restriction (3 antler points on one side) program in the Catskill region. Background Information * In 2002, in compensation for a license fee increase, bowhunters received two additional carcass tags, * In 2005, the DEC implemented regulations that took away up to 10 days and the last weekend of prime bowhunting time in November. This change allowed junior hunters to hunt on the 1 st weekend of the regular season, * In 2009, another license fee was enacted, including the addition of a $10 application fee for DMPs, * Bowhuters have to buy two licenses in order to bow hunt (big game and archery), * Bowhunters are paying more license/permit fees in combination with ever decreasing hunting opportunities. Southern Zone Season Structure : * open the archery-only season on October 1 st , * create a 3 day youth firearm season on the Columbus Day holiday weekend followed immediately by, * a 4 day muzzleloading/bow season for antlerless deer only (including bowhunters), * bow-only season continues through the 3 rd Friday in November, * open the regular season on the 3 rd Saturday in November for 23 days (current season structure), * a 9 day combined bow/muzzleloading season after the regular season (current season structure). If this DEC plan is implemented, bowhunters in 2012 will only have a 5 days of uninterrupted archery-only hunting season. After the deer drives start and the guns start going off, the deer will go running, including the mature bucks that will head to their safe hiding spots until the woods calm down in late December. The archery-only season you enjoy now will cease to exist. Northern Zone Season Structure : * open the archery-only season on September 27 th , * 3 day youth firearms hunt on Columbus Day holiday weekend, * bow-only season thru the next to last Friday in October (gain 4 days with no additional weekend opportunity), * 7 day muzzleloading/bow season (moved back one week), * regular season opens on the last Saturday in October thru the 2 nd Sunday in December (moved back one week), * 7 day muzzleloading with bow hunting included in season . Additional proposals : * The DEC can modify the bow and muzzleloading seasons as it sees fit, resulting in unpredictable season structures. * Make additional portions of the bow season, in selected areas, antlerless only (no bucks). * Allow for the use of crossbows in ALL the hunting seasons (legislation required). * Open a youth-only firearms hunt during the 1 st weekend of the Suffolk County January firearms season. Regular Firearm Seasons - Other than moving back the northern zone season by one week, there are no changes to the season length or tag structure, including no requirements to take only antlerless deer in any portion of the seasons! When the last big push for everyone to get their lifetime license came about my family was all trying to get me to get mine with them. I sat back and told them that if you really think this bailout plan to get a quick amount of money to the DEC is the end that they were nuts. It was in my opinion easily to look into the political agenda of what was coming next. What I told them would happen is you paid for your lifetime and in short order they will mandate that you need to buy tags to hunt. They pushed the lifetime, alot jumped thinking how much money it was saving them in the future and then whammm. Typical NY politics. Im sure the lifetime does indeed save money but Im also sure alot thought that this was the end for them paying out to hunt. The not so funny part is they know the dedication the majority of hunters have to this sport and know we will pay to play in the woods each and every fall. Come fall of 2012 however this turns out I will still be in one of my stands opening morning and they know that. The libs need to go for this state to recover from such antics.
