1. sits in trees, has some very good points concerning crossbow use. I have been hunting with a crossbow for the past 15 years due to several shoulder operations. Although I live here in New York I had to travel to Ohio to bow hunt with my crossbow. Here are some of the things I have learned over the years. Do NOT get your fingers in the area where the string travels along the slide ! ( It hurts big time!) Practice practice practice If you plan to hunt from a tree stand, practice from there, same thing if you are hunting from a ground blind. Get yourself a good range finder and learn to use it. Make sure you use the proper type of bolts as per man.. specs. Aluminum or Carbon. flat knock or half moon Depending on the maker they act differently. There is a way to discharge into the ground, place a flat washer behind the target/field point when you screw it on to the bolt. Stops the bolt from going into the ground. Don't think for a minute that because the string is locked in the full draw. and it feels like a gun, that you can shoot like it's a gun. 40 yards MAX ! ! And unless you encounter a deer that is either deaf or just "dumber then a box of rocks" You will NOT get a second shot ! Make sure the first shot is going to seal the deal. I can say that I am glad to be able to use my crossbow here at home.
2. Funny thing about these "layoff's" and cuts to the work force. We NEVER hear that the "Elected" and "Appointed" Politicians are being forced to take a layoff off or having their position's eliminated. And NEVER is there any mention of these same politicians that are taking these "kick backs" and "Incentives" for getting things passed for some special interest groups, giving up their salary or taking a pay cut.

4. If the people that were NOT supposed to be there had a digital camera with them, they could have erased your memory cards in very short order. Just happy that they didn't steal your camera's while they were at it.
5. Bill and his wife Blanche went to the state fair every year, And every year Bill would say, " Blanche, I'd like to ride in that helicopter " Blanche always replied, " I know, Bill, but that helicopter ride is fifty bucks, and fifty bucks is fifty bucks! " One year Bill and Blanche went to the fair, and Bill said, " Blanche, I'm 75 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance " To this, Blanche replied, " Bill that helicopter ride is fifty bucks, and fifty bucks is fifty bucks " The pilot overheard the couple and said, " Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and don't say a word I won't charge you a penny! But if you say one word it's fifty dollars. " Bill and Blanche agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks, but still not a word... When they landed, the pilot turned to Bill and said, " By golly , I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed! " Bill replied, " Well, to tell you the truth I almost said something when Blanche fell out, but you know, Fifty bucks is fifty bucks! "
6. I feel like you that this is stupidity at it's finest. But, these "elected Officials" are not the sharpest tacks in the board. They are liable to pass it just because of "Stupidity"!
7. Newly-proposed bills in New York would create unnecessary regulations for sporting dog owners. http://thelcn.com/2011/06/proposed-laws-threaten-sporting-dog-ownership/
8. DEC has developed a draft Deer Management Plan for New York State. This process began in 2009 when DEC hosted a series of meetings across the state to engage New Yorkers in a discussion of deer management issues and to solicit the public's input on deer management priorities (see Public Meetings on Deer Management). DEC then contracted with the Human Dimensions Research Unit at Cornell University to complete a formal survey of New York deer hunters (see Statewide Deer Hunter Survey - 2010 (PDF); 516 kB) to further explore specific issues that emerged during the public meetings. Input from the public and results of various hunters surveys were used by DEC biologists and managers to help develop the recommendations and management actions contained in the draft plan. The draft plan describes six primary goals that encompass the current priorities for deer management and the values and issues expressed by the public: Manage deer populations at levels that are appropriate for human and ecological concerns; Promote and enhance deer hunting as an important recreational activity, tradition, and population management tool in New York; Reduce negative impacts caused by deer; Foster public understanding and communication about deer ecology, deer management, economic aspects and recreational opportunities; Manage deer to promote healthy and sustainable forests and enhance habitat conservation efforts to benefit deer and other species; and Ensure that the necessary resources are available to support sound management of white-tailed deer in New York. 10. I maybe missing the whole point of this release from DEC. But, there was a different piece of legislation that dealt with the use of crossbows by persons with disabilities. Yet, in this release there is no mention of use of crossbow by disabled hunters. I guess that time will tell.
11. It basically states that disabled hunters can use a "draw lock" type devise with longbows. It does not address cross bows at all in reguard to disabled hunters.
12. Here is the latest update on crossbow use here in NY. Please take notice, that crossbows are NOT mentioned for use by disabled hunters. Please contact DEC at there web site and leave your comments that disabled hunters should be allowed this valuable tool. See attached. crossbowform.pdf
13. Yes it has been signed. http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php/topic,4739.0.html
