  2. Went to a Ebola preparedness meeting at the hospital I work at today. Seems like the space suits those nurses were wearing may have been the problem. Not an equipment failure, but a training failure. Best guess now is that the nurses , while in the process of removing the "suit" contaminated themselfs. The suits were unfamiliar garb, with a definite process requiring aprox 15 min to don or doff. There should have been training, practice and oversight before and during use of this gear.

  3. I put the outdoor Christmas lights on one last time just to make it easy to find the house on the way home from the gas station and pizza place. Its a white out in Hamburg right now.

  4. I use old flip back style mittens. They have glove fingers inside the mitten shell, and the trigger fingers and thumbs have slits for the digit to stick out of for easy use. I need to replace them as they are very worn and ratty. I rarely use them, but they are great for when it's really cold out.

  5. Well it took close to 30 years of hunting, but I finally managed to break a gun. While crossing over a fallen tree (should have gone around) I placed a foot between two limbs. I actually thought to myself at this point " this is a good way to break a leg". While lifting my other leg over the limb I lost my balance and fell. After checking myself over to find no injuries,I found the muzzle of my Marlin 336 plugged with mud and snow. I unloaded the gun, and after triple checking to be sure the gun was unloaded, cleared the blockage. A further inspection revealed that the butt stock now could wobble from side to side where it met the reciever. I pulled the stock off today and found that a small wooden ear at the forward end of the stock had cracked off. I don't believa a glue job would hold up, so I'll be ordering a replacement after Christmas. All in all I count myself lucky to only have a bruised hip, and ego, and a repair bill under a hundred bucks.

  6. I'm excited about Saturdays opener, my 23 year old is REALLY excited. The only thing I don't look forward to is the orange army on the state land. We plan to start walking in at 0530 ish, I'm hoping we can find a spot not allready occupied ! My vacation is the last week of gun season and I'll have the whole 1000 + acres to myself, or at least share it with a minimal number of other hunters.

  7. The safety angle makes sense. I also considred the economics of two sets of hunting clothes, perhaps a gun hunter as well  who figures the orange can do double duty. I'm not trying to knock the guy, I just found it curious thats all.

  8. On a drive from Buffalo to Dansville this weekend I noticed a person in a tree stand. I assume this person was bow hunting for deer (why else would you be up in a tree stand, at 9:00 am this time of year?) The reason I was able to notice this person, as I was doing highway speeds on the 90, was they were dressed in blaze orange. As I do not bow hunt I found this unusual as the pics I see of bow hunters allways have them in camo. Is this as odd as I think it is , or do some of you bow hunters wear orange while bow hunting ?

  9. Interesting, I drove from Buffalo to Dansville on Sat. I took 90 to 390 on the way there and saw no roadkill at all. Trip home was 436 to 39 to 219 and saw one deer hit on the road.

  10. Red,

If they did'nt order any pain meds please check with your sons doctor and let him / her know about the pain. There has been a real effort made to treat pain over the last few years. There's no need for that kind of suffering.
