  1. I'm excited about it. A friend who heard about it at a gun show told me about it. I've passed it on to a half-dozen others interested. It's Holley's 6th annual, but the first I've heard of it. Sounds super fun, as my buddy and I hunt squirrels weekly. Fun will be had !!
  2. I'm out once a week or so hunting for squirrels and or crows. I usually carry an 870 in 20ga, with #6 steel shot ( non-toxic required for pellets where I am ). If something larger comes by and is in season, like a coon, fox, coyote, etc, should I take a whack at it ? I'm unsure if #6 is 'enough gun' especially in steel shot. I've thought about carrying a few rounds of small buckshot or slugs for this, but I doubt I could eject and reload quickly or quietly enough. And I'm using a full choke= no slugs. I do have a 10/22 also, but I can't really shoot a flying crow with it so it usually stays home. Any thoughts ?
  3. Yep, target practice and home defense. More rounds equals more shooting equals better practice, and equals more firepower in a home invasion or zombie scenario.
  4. I do a bit more sitting than walking. I guess I could keep the magnification on the lowest on my scope to get on target quicker when moving about. I may like the shorter size of a red dot scope in the brush though. I've never even looked through one but they interest me.
  5. Hi guys. I need a new optic for my Rem 870 20ga w/ cantilever mount rifled barrel ( slug gun ). I've used a scoped gun a few times, but never used a red dot sight. What are the pros / cons of both ? I'll be limited to about $150 for the purchase. Scope-wise the Nikon Prostaff looks good. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. --Lee
  6. Thanks so far, guys. I forgot about the grouse and porc's. I've hunted near both. I've even thought about bringing a .22 with me along with my deer 12ga. Any thoughts? I couldn't tell if carrying two guns is OK w/ DEC. Oh yeah, my season for deer's been poor like lots of yours. Regular seas week one, I saw only one deer -through tons of cover- no shot- that's from 12 morns or aftrn trips. No organized drives or pushes though. Week two and counting I've been unable to get out.
  7. Hi guys. I'm 42 but only a second year hunter. So don't light me up too bad if this sounds dumb, just explain why. I usually hunt alone and on state land. On a lot of slow- to- dead mornings I find myself wanting to harvest some squirrels if they're thick. I haven't yet because so far, I only carry a 12ga for deer and dont want to vaporize the 'rats', and also I'm unsure of the etiquette / general feelings on taking other game in deer woods during regular season. I already considered proximity to other hunters out of consideration of course. I also figure that shooting at squirrels would end my deer chances for a good while, so I wouldn't engage the rodents until I was ready to leave for the morning. Share your thoughts. Thanks and let's get COLD !!! -Lee
