4 years too. I've fished hardcore for 40 years since I was a kid, but never tried hunting until recently. I hardly fish in the fall anymore. I do miss mornings on steelhead waters right after deer gun season opens- nearly all to myself.

Mudhole = great selection. I've built a dozen or two, if you count rewraps. It's fun but not cheap. You can make rods yourself that you'd never find/buy otherwise. Good times. I never did a power wrapper; probably not necessary unless your really churning them out under deadline. Make a couple and fish them hard, almost abuse them, to test them before you do a bunch more.

I'm happy to have been born here and to have moved back here after years away. Outdoor activities here far exceed my time and energy available.

I missed Franbilt's heyday after I moved south, but I heard a lot of good about Fran after moving home. I know a couple of other people who were close to him and will miss him greatly.

I like seeing those little squirts. My neighbor's pines harbor a bunch of different types and it's always fun for the kids and me to figure out which species are there.

Oh yeah.. I've been shooting Remington Golden Bullets, they seem pretty good. Never shot your Stingers though.

Yeah I hear ya on the reds! How's the in-store availability of 22LR these days?

I dunno, the whole area has lots of deer, but very tough hunting. Deer can get away from people easily. I hunt there, as I have no private land spots, but it's tough.

Elmo, that was beautiful !!

Went with my 14yo daughter Saturday AM. Had a great few-hour sit, and on the way out flushed a trio of deer bedded 10ft from our in-trail. I think we were more surprised than the deer. We heard only one shot that wasn't a .22.

Yeah, I'd like some input too. Last year my buddy fired a shot from behind and left of me. My left hearing is dull at higher tones now. It may be unrelated, but I might need some help anyway. -

My buddy and I hunt on public land. There's a ton of fox and coyote tracks this season. We've been really close to some, but not close enough. We need a bait set I think. What's a good source for cheap / free bait ? I know about recommended ways to hold it in its place longer, but other than deer carcasses ( none this season ) what's out there to get our hands on ? Any tips for a newbie pred hunter will be appreciated. Thanks.

I've got the Blackhawk on my 12ga 870 too. I used it for hunting when it was my only gun. It's pretty cool, but the stock's a little bit snaggy in thick cover.

My boneheaded self didn't get tickets for the Slam in time. Sure wish I had. What a great way to show support for us, especially after Kuomo's doings. I'll be watching the news online and on TV I guess. Anyone on here attending, please keep me / us posted. --Lee

Yeah, the protesters are making a lot of noise ine the news and social media. Some are linking squirrel hunters to future mass murderers! I went to that hunt last year and will again this year and it's a lot of fun at the weigh-in. Check it out if you can.

In corresponding with Midway USA, I was told that they will still ship ammo to NYS. They expect to do so until Jan 15, 2014. This may already have been posted on here; I'm posting just in case. I know CTD said they won't ship ammo here and I think I heard Cabelas and Bass Pro won't either. Happy hunting and shooting ! --Lee

I lost the link to the Facebook page they put together for today's Gun Appreciaion Day rally. Thanks.

ALL 10+ SHOT MAGAZINES ARE GONE
BaldguyLee replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This makes me sick too. I lived away from NY for 15yrs and told everyone how great NY was and how I missed it. I finally came back to my birthtown here in WNY 12 yrs ago by choice. I live the life of a model citizen- never cheat laws, never steal, never lie, don't beat my family, don't speed ( almost never ), don't abuse any systems, or cheat on my taxes. I do the right things even when no-one will know. And now I'm a criminal for having a 10/22 ? What a great governor we have. I should make him tell my kids why Daddy's now a lawbreaker. -
Yeah, I may just notch ( very slightly ) my chokes. Thanks everyone.

My gun is a Mossberg 500. I'll buy all extended chokes in the future, since they mostly have something written on the outside, but the ones that came with the gun are flush.

Hi, people. Silly question here. Aside from memory, what's an easy way to remind myself which choke tube is in my shotgun? I switch up on different trips, but I find myself looking at which chokes are left, to know which one must be in my gun. Any quick and easy tips ? Thanks. --Lee
